Anivia the Cryophoenix
She is a control monster who thrives when she can set up her combo without getting dove. Mayhem's faster pace means her wall and stun are more valuable for stopping aggressive engages, but her egg form is easier to burst down with increased damage. Pick her when your team has other lockdown to help her land Q, and avoid picking her into five assassins who can delete the egg instantly.
Open with R to create a slowing zone, then use Q to stun targets trying to escape the storm. Save W to cut off escape paths or peel divers off your backline, rather than using it for damage. E is your finisher: only cast it on targets already chilled by R or Q to get the double damage.
Don't throw the wall randomly or you will trap your own teammates in a bad spot. Use it to split enemy teams during corridor fights, pin enemies against terrain, or block melee champions from reaching your carry. A well-placed wall can completely deny a Snowball engage or force enemies to walk around into your R.
Flash-R-E is your primary assassination tool on a squishy target who thinks they are safe. This is risky because you burn your escape, so only do it when your team can follow up or when you have your passive egg ready. Save Flash for high-value targets like enemy carries, not for chasing a support with a heal.
When you drop to zero health, you transform into an egg with a health bar that enemies must destroy to kill you. If the egg survives, you revive with a portion of health, but you are a sitting duck for the duration. Position your egg near teammates who can peel, and remember that dying in the middle of five enemies usually means a dead bird.
Max R whenever available, then prioritize E for the burst damage on chilled targets. Q is your utility tool for stuns and wave clear, so put a second point in it early if you are struggling to land skillshots. W only needs one point until later because the wall length does not increase enough to justify skipping damage.
Anivia drains mana quickly if you leave R toggled on too long or spam abilities without hitting anything. Turn R off immediately after a fight ends or when enemies leave the zone, and look for mana regeneration augments or items like Tear of the Goddess early. Chalice augments that restore mana on takedown are extremely valuable for sustained siege.
Prioritize augments that increase ability power, mana regeneration, or ability haste to keep your ultimate up more often. Augments that add crowd control duration or size make your wall and stun even more oppressive. Avoid attack speed or healing-focused augments since they do nothing for your core playstyle.
Keep Q ready to stun the first diver who commits, then wall off the rest of their team from following up. Never lead with W because good divers will Flash or Snowball over it before you can react. Stay behind your frontline and treat your egg as a second life bar, not an excuse to play recklessly.
Snowball is your engage tool for landing a point-blank R on clustered enemies. Mark a target in the middle of their team, wait for them to group, then fly in and instantly cast R before they can scatter. You can also use Snowball to reposition when dived, escaping over terrain to safety.
Hide behind minions to block linear skillshots and use your own R to zone enemies off their poke positions. You lose most direct poke trades because your Q is slow and easy to dodge at max range, so focus on counter-engaging when they overextend. Consider magic resist augments if the enemy has three or more poke champions.
Always group with your team because Anivia provides zero split-push pressure compared to her teamfight value. Your R clears minion waves fast enough to defend towers, but you need teammates to protect your egg while you channel. Roaming to help your team secure kills is better than sitting in a side lane alone.
Play defensive and focus on landing Q stuns on enemies who overextend for poke. Your damage is low without items, so do not try to force kills alone. Use R to slow the minion wave and prevent enemies from diving your tower, then scale into the mid-game where your combo actually threatens squishies.
Assassins with multiple dashes like Zed or Katarina can dodge your Q and burst your egg before help arrives. Long-range control mages like Xerath or Ziggs can kill you from outside your engage range. Ban or dodge against heavy dive if your team lacks peel, otherwise focus on stunning the diver and hoping your team follows up.
