Udyr the Spirit Walker
Max Wingborne Storm (R) first for teamfight damage and lane control. The constant storm aura chunks squishies and clears waves, which is critical on the single-lane map. If your team lacks a dedicated tank, prioritize Iron Mantle (W) second to survive burst. This tradeoff sacrifices damage for sustain, letting you dive towers or soak poke.
Use the empowered activation of Blazing Stampede (E) to gain a massive movement speed burst and immunity to crowd control. Save this for when the enemy throws their key disable, like a Morgana binding or Ryze root, so you don't get kited. If you engage with regular E, you risk getting stopped before you reach their backline. Snowball helps, but the E dash is your reliable tool for sticking to slippery targets.
He is a strong diver and disruptor who thrives in chaotic fights where he can cycle stances rapidly. The mode's increased gold and experience gain let him hit his tanky power spike earlier than on Summoner's Rift. He struggles into heavy disengage or percentage-health damage, but he dominates low-cooldown skirmishes. You are not just a shield; you are a persistent threat that forces enemies to focus you.
Start with Blazing Stampede (E) to engage, then immediately swap to Wingborne Storm (R) to apply the slow and damage aura. After the initial impact, switch to Iron Mantle (W) to absorb the incoming burst and heal. Cycle back to E to stun nearby targets if the fight drags on. This sequence maximizes your damage while keeping your health bar stable during the dive.
Save your Awakened cast for the stance that best solves your current problem. Awakened R creates a massive slow zone that locks down a whole enemy team, which is ideal for starting or turning a fight. Awakened W gives you a huge shield and healing, perfect for surviving a burst combo or baiting cooldowns. Do not waste Awakened E just for speed unless you absolutely need to escape.
Rush Liandry's Torment if you are focusing on R-max damage, as the burn synergizes with your persistent storm aura. If you are the primary frontline, build tank items like Sunfire Aegis or Spirit Visage to boost your W healing. A hybrid build with Jak'Sho, The Protean works well for extended fights where you can stack resistances. Avoid pure damage builds; you need durability to cycle through your stances multiple times.
Target the enemy with the least mobility or the one who has already used their escape. Use the brush to break vision and force them to face-check your E stun. If you cannot reach the carries, peel for your own damage dealers by stunning divers who try to jump your backline. Do not chase a healthy ADC across the map; switch targets and pressure whoever is closest.
Pick Udyr when your team needs a tanky engager who can also deal consistent area damage. He fits well with teams that have follow-up damage, as he provides setup but rarely one-shots enemies. Avoid picking him if your team already has three melee champions or lacks ranged poke. He is also a strong counter-pick into immobile mages who cannot easily escape his repeated stuns.
Use Snowball Mark to gap-close, then follow up with an immediate E slam to stun the target before they can flash. This gives you two separate engage tools, making it very hard for enemies to avoid your pressure. If you miss the Snowball, back off and wait for cooldowns rather than forcing a bad E engage. Snowball is your primary way to start a fight from outside the enemy's vision range.
The biggest mistake is staying in one stance too long instead of cycling abilities to trigger the Awakened bonus. Players often spam R without ever switching to W, causing them to die instantly when focused. Another common error is using Awakened E offensively when the enemy has heavy burst available. You must adapt your stance rotation to the fight's tempo, not just a fixed ability sequence.
Switch to a defensive playstyle by maxing W earlier and peeling for your strongest teammate. Use your E stun to stop enemy assassins or divers from killing your carries, rather than trying to dive their backline. Build pure tank stats and resistance items to survive long enough to be useful. You cannot force a 1v1 when behind, so focus on being a disruption tool.
Look for augments that reduce ability cooldowns or increase healing and shielding power. Since Udyr spams abilities, any haste augment lets him cycle stances faster, increasing both damage and survivability. Augments that add crowd control or slow effects also pair well with his R aura. Avoid augments that only boost single-target damage, as his strength comes from persistent area pressure.
Build health items rather than relying purely on resistances, as true damage ignores armor and magic resist. Focus on stunning these threats to prevent them from winding up their full combo. If the enemy has a Vayne or Fiora, do not try to duel them alone; call for help and lock them down for your team. Your W shield helps, but sustained true damage will eventually win.
Identify the highest priority target you can actually reach and stick to them with repeated E stuns. Use Awakened R to zone the enemy team off objectives or to slow their entire frontline. If you get low, cycle to W and disengage until your cooldowns reset, then re-enter the fight. Your job is to be a constant nuisance that the enemy cannot afford to ignore but cannot easily kill.
