Lucian the Purifier
He is a top-tier carry because Mayhem's accelerated gold and experience let him hit his item spikes much earlier than normal. The mode's constant fighting means his passive double-shot is almost always active, giving him sustained damage that few marksmen can match. He excels when you play aggressive and use your mobility to weave in and out of fights.
Start with a Long Sword and health potions to maximize your early all-in potential. Lucian has a very strong level one if you land Piercing Light and auto-attack twice immediately after. You want to force early trades because your passive gives you more auto-attacks than your opponent expects.
Prioritize augments that enhance your basic attacks or ability haste, such as ones that add on-hit effects or reduce cooldowns. Since Lucian resets his auto-attack timer after every ability, any augment that modifies basic attacks effectively doubles in value. Avoid augments that only boost ability power or crowd control duration, as they do not synergize with his kit.
Always input a movement command or use an ability, then immediately auto-attack to trigger the double-shot. This "ability-auto" rhythm is the core of his damage output, so never cast spells back-to-back without weaving in attacks. If you kite backwards while doing this, you can chase or retreat while maintaining maximum damage.
Max Piercing Light (Q) first for poke and wave clear, then Ardent Blaze (W) for the movement speed burst. Relentless Pursuit (E) only needs one point early because the cooldown resets on kills or when The Culling hits, making ranks less urgent. In Mayhem's chaotic fights, the extra damage on Q and W helps you secure resets faster.
Use it to execute low-health enemies from a safe distance or to shred tanks who are locked down by your team. Do not open fights with it unless you are cleaning up, because you cannot auto-attack during the channel and lose your passive damage. Cancel the ability early if the enemy disappears behind terrain or if you need to dodge a critical skill shot.
Go for a crit build with Essence Reaver or Kraken Slayer as your first major item to spike your damage. Follow up with Infinity Edge and rapid-fire items that let you proc your passive faster. In Mayhem, you can often skip defensive boots early because the mode's augment system gives you enough survival tools through other means.
He pairs best with supports who can lock enemies in place, like Leona, Thresh, or Nami, because his Q is easier to land on immobile targets. That said, Mayhem's solo nature means you should not rely on coordination; focus on punishing enemies who overextend. If your team has no frontline, play more cautiously and use your E to reposition rather than dive.
Kite them relentlessly using your E and the movement speed from your W marks. Never stand still, because bruisers in Mayhem have access to gap-closing augments that can punish you instantly. Build Blade of the Ruined King or Lord Dominik's Regards if the enemy team stacks health or armor.
He has short range compared to other marksmen, so long-range poke mages like Xerath or Ziggs can force him off the wave. Hard crowd control is also a death sentence, as his dash is his only escape tool. Play the vision game and wait for key enemy cooldowns before you commit to a full all-in.
Save it for repositioning unless you are guaranteed a kill that will reset the cooldown. Many Lucian players waste E to deal damage, then get caught by a gank or engage with no escape. In Mayhem, where damage is high, keeping E ready to dodge is often more valuable than using it for a small damage increase.
Snowball is a strong choice for Lucian because it gives him a gap-closer to start fights or reach the backline. Hit the mark on a squishy target, dash in, then immediately use E to reposition and start your ability-auto combo. If the enemy has too much point-and-click crowd control, consider Flash or Ghost instead for safer positioning.
Focus on poke with Q and look for cleanup kills with your ultimate rather than forcing risky all-ins. Lucian scales well with items, so even if you lose the early game, a few key augment picks can bring you back. Stay near your team's engage and wait for enemies to commit before you show yourself.
Avoid any augment that purely increases ability power or extends crowd control, since Lucian is an attack-damage carry with no crowd control in his basic kit. Also be wary of augments that require you to stand still or channel, as they conflict with his mobile playstyle. Prioritize anything that boosts attack speed, cooldown reduction, or on-hit damage.
