Trundle the Troll King
He is a niche but powerful pick into the right team compositions. Trundle excels against double-tank or melee-heavy lineups where his ultimate and pillar can dictate positioning. He struggles against heavy poke or kite-heavy teams that can play around his limited engage range.
Your job is to create chaos in the enemy backline and shred frontline tanks. Use Snowball to gap close, then drop your pillar to cut off escape routes or isolate a high-value target. Once you stick to a squishy target, your attack speed steroid and damage amplification make it very hard for them to survive.
Use it to last-hit minions for gold and to reduce the enemy's attack damage during trades. The attack damage reduction is most effective against auto-attack reliant champions like Jinx or Yasuo. Try to weave auto-attacks between Chomps to maximize your damage output and sustain.
Drop it right before you commit to a fight or when you need to disengage. The area gives you bonus attack speed, movement speed, and healing, so fighting inside your zone is crucial. Avoid casting it too early in a poke war, or enemies will simply walk away and wait out the duration.
Place it directly on top of an enemy to instantly knock them aside and slow them, which makes follow-up Snowballs or skillshots easier. You can also place it in narrow chokepoints to split the enemy team or block retreat paths. Be careful not to accidentally save an enemy by blocking your own teammate's damage.
Target the enemy with the highest bonus health and resistances to steal the most stats. This turns a tank into a squishy target while making you significantly tankier for the duration. If no tanks exist, use it on the enemy bruiser or whoever is diving your backline to neutralize their threat.
Stealing resistances does not reduce true damage taken, but the health drain still applies. The ultimate is still valuable for the raw health swing and the stats you gain for yourself. Prioritize it for the stat theft and survival boost rather than expecting it to counter true damage champions like Darius or Vayne.
Rush damage and attack speed like Blade of the Ruined King or Trinity Force to maximize your dueling potential. Trundle benefits from attack speed and ability haste to keep his Chomp on cooldown and his pillar available. Defensive items like Sterak's Gage or Spirit Visage are strong mid-game choices once you start taking focused fire.
It is one of his best defensive items because it amplifies all healing from his passive, Frozen Domain, and items like Blade of the Ruined King. The magic resist and ability haste also help you survive poke and cycle your abilities faster. Build it when facing magic damage and you need extended sustain in teamfights.
Play patient and use your passive healing from minion deaths to stay healthy. Look for angles to Snowball onto a minion or frontline target to close the gap. Once you engage, commit fully because retreating often means taking free damage without achieving anything.
Prioritize augments that increase damage, attack speed, or ability haste to enhance your dueling and pillar uptime. Durability augments also scale well with your ultimate's stat theft, making you nearly unkillable in extended fights. Avoid pure utility or mage-focused augments since they do not synergize with your kit.
Snowball is your primary engage tool since Trundle lacks a reliable dash. Use it to mark a target, dash in, and immediately drop your pillar to trap them. If you miss Snowball, play back and wait for it to come off cooldown before trying to force another engage.
High-range poke mages like Ziggs or Xerath are miserable because they can kill you before you ever reach them. Champions with strong disengage like Janna or Gragas can also nullify your engage attempts. In these games, focus on peeling for your own carries and using pillar to protect them from divers.
His pillar is an excellent peeling tool against melee divers and assassins. Place it between your carry and the diving enemy to slow their approach and create space. Your Chomp also reduces enemy attack damage, which can save a teammate in a close duel.
Pick him when the enemy has at least one or two tanks or melee champions for you to exploit. He is also a strong choice if your team lacks a frontline, since his ultimate lets him temporarily fill that role. Avoid picking him into four or five ranged champions unless you are confident in your Snowball accuracy.
