Early Game (Levels 1–6)
Start near your tower line and look for immediate poke with Ice Shard (Q). In Mayhem, the reduced cooldowns and increased mana recovery let you spam Q off-cooldown. Do not worry about hitting the minion wave first; hitting a champion directly still applies the slow and creates pressure. Use the brush to break vision between casts so enemies cannot easily return fire.
Positioning: Stay at your max Q range. If the enemy team has long-range poke or hooks, play slightly off-center to avoid giving them a clear angle. Never walk up past the minion wave unless you are securing a kill.
Trading Rhythm: Throw Q whenever it is up. If you land a slow, walk forward slightly to auto-attack if safe, then back off. Avoid extended trades early because Lissandra is squishy and her passive damage over time is not yet strong enough to win straight-up brawls.
Snowball Use: Hold Mark (Snowball) for a defensive check or a guaranteed engage setup. Do not throw it randomly for chip damage. If you land a mark on a squishy target who has used their escape, you can dash in, land W for the root, and follow with Q and autos. If you miss, back off immediately and reset.
Augment Use: If your first augment boosts damage or ability haste, play more aggressively. If it gives sustain or shields, you can afford to take a bit more return damage while trading. Adapt your spacing to what the augment provides.
Push or Stall: Push the wave lightly with Q to keep the enemy under their tower, but do not hard-shove without vision of the enemy team. A light push forces them to dodge skillshots while last-hitting.
Ahead Plan: If you get an early kill or force a back, shove the wave and look for a Snowball engage on the next wave while they are resetting. Chip the tower if possible, but do not overstay.
Behind Plan: If you die first or lose the trade, give up ground. Let the wave come to you and focus on landing Q from safety. Do not force a Snowball engage to “make a play” when you are behind on health.
Next Move: Aim for level 6 as fast as possible. Once you have Frozen Tomb (R), your kill threat spikes dramatically.
Mid Game (Levels 7–11)
Now you have access to your ultimate and likely a second augment. This is Lissandra’s power window. You become a primary engage tool for your team. Look for angles where you can Snowball onto a high-priority target or use Flash–R if necessary.
Positioning: Play around your frontline if you have one. If your team lacks a tank, you act as the catch-and-burst initiator, but you must wait for the enemy to overextend or for a clear Snowball hit. Do not stand in the open; use the side brushes or stay behind minions to block linear skillshots.
Trading/Poke Rhythm: Continue Q spam to soften the enemy team. When you see a target around 60–70% health, you can look for a full combo: Snowball dash, W root, Q, and R on top of them. The burst plus your passive’s ice shard explosion usually secures the kill.
Snowball Use: Snowball becomes your primary engage starter. Aim for the enemy carry or the target your team can collapse on fastest. If the enemy has strong disengage, wait for them to burn key cooldowns before committing.
Augment Use: If you have an augment that enhances crowd control, burst, or ability haste, force fights more often. If your augment is defensive, you can play slightly more forward and absorb some initial damage before retreating.
Push or Stall: Push with your team. Use Q to clear minions quickly, then focus fire on champions. Do not stall unless your team is waiting for a major cooldown or an ally to respawn.
Ahead Plan: Group with your team and siege the enemy inhibitor towers. Look for picks on anyone who steps up to clear. If you catch someone, immediately collapse and take the tower afterward.
Behind Plan: Disengage and stall under your tower. Use Q to slow the approaching wave and enemies. Save R for self-peel if they dive you. Do not force an engage when your team is out-numbered or out-leveled.
Next Move: Secure any available health relics or buffs with your team. Prepare for the late-game teamfight phase where your R becomes even more decisive.
Late Game (Levels 12+)
At this stage, death timers are long and one good engage can end the game. Your role shifts from frequent trading to high-impact, fight-winning ults. Every R use matters.
Positioning: Stay near your team but not in the very front unless you are about to engage. Avoid face-checking brushes. Let a teammate with more range or durability check for you. If you get caught, your team loses its main engage and peel tool.
Trading/Poke Rhythm: Poke with Q to keep enemies honest, but do not burn all your mana before a real fight starts. Save enough resources for a full combo. Look for enemies who are isolated or have used their defensive abilities.
Snowball Use: Snowball is still your engage tool, but be more selective. A failed engage late can cost your team the fight. Only commit when your team is in position to follow up. If you land a Snowball on a squishy target in the enemy backline, communicate your dive before going in.
Augment Use: Late-game augments often provide significant power spikes. If you have an augment that increases ultimate damage, area, or cooldown reduction, look for multi-man R opportunities. If your augment is utility-based, use it to protect your carries or reposition quickly.
Push or Stall: Push as a unit. Do not split off alone. When sieging, use Q to harass defenders under their tower. If the enemy team is dead or respawning, commit to taking inhibitors and the nexus.
Ahead Plan: Force fights around objectives or the enemy base. Use your R to lock down a key target and burst them before the enemy can react. After a pick, immediately take towers or end the game.
Behind Plan: Play strictly defensive. Hold R for when the enemy dives your backline. Self-cast R if you get jumped to deny their burst and deal damage in a zone around you. Look for a counter-engage only when they overcommit.
Next Move: After a successful fight, push to end. If the fight goes poorly, reset, buy, and regroup for one final defense. Your ability to land a clutch R is your team’s best hope for a turnaround.
