Normal Skill Order

Max Order: R > Q > E > W

Start Q for the early trade potential. The true damage conversion on the second hit is your primary threat in Mayhem where fights start immediately. Take E second at level 2 so you can engage or disengage over terrain. The hookshot is essential for closing the massive ARAM gap. Grab W third for the slow and sustain, then put a second point in Q at level 4. Max Q first for damage, E second for cooldown reduction on your engage tool, and W last.

Why Q First

Camille’s Q is her only reliable damage source that scales well. In Mayhem, where health pools are inflated and healing is abundant, you need the true damage on the second activation to cut through defensive builds. Maxing W first is a trap. The ability deals percent current health damage, which sounds good on paper, but the cast time leaves you stationary. A stationary Camille in the ARAM chokepoint is a dead Camille. You cannot afford to stop moving in a mode where skill checks are constant.

Maxing E first is equally inefficient. While the cooldown goes down, the damage is negligible. You pick Camille to isolate and assassinate targets, not to poke with a hookshot. Putting points into E early gives you more mobility but zero kill pressure. You become a low-damage engage bot that gets kited after the initial stun wears off. Q max ensures that when you do land the hook, the target actually dies.

Augment-Influenced Skill Order

Max Order: R > Q > E > W (Standard) or R > E > Q > W (Mobility Augments)

Most augments do not change Camille’s fundamental priority. You still need Q damage to function. However, specific augment rolls can shift the logic. If you roll an augment that drastically reduces ability cooldowns or grants reset mechanics on takedowns, prioritizing E second becomes more attractive than waiting until level 14. The faster hookshot allows you to play like a skirmisher, bouncing between targets rather than committing to a single all-in.

Adjustment Triggers

  • Heavy CDR or Reset Augments: If your augment setup pushes your ability haste to extreme levels, consider putting a third or fourth point into E earlier than usual. The reduced hookshot cooldown lets you chase fleeing enemies or escape bad fights that would otherwise kill you. This is a survival adjustment, not a damage optimization.
  • Execution or Execute-Threshold Augments: Stick to the standard Q max. Augments that amplify damage on low-health targets synergize with Camille’s Q true damage burst. You want the second Q hit to act as a finisher. Delaying Q max for W or E dilutes this synergy.
  • Shield or Durability Augments: These do not change your skill order. They change your playstyle. You can play more aggressively with a Q max because the augment compensates for your natural fragility. Do not fall into the trap of maxing W just because you are tankier; the ability still forces you to stand still.

The Cost of the Wrong Order

Maxing W first is the most common and punishing error. Players see the percent health damage and the healing from the outer edge and assume it is a poke tool. It is not. The windup is telegraphed, and competent opponents will sidestep or punish the animation lock. In Mayhem, where projectile speeds are faster and crowd control is everywhere, stopping to cast W often results in taking more damage than you heal. You lose lane pressure, you lose health, and you become irrelevant.

Maxing E first without augment support leaves you with high mobility but no damage. You can engage, but you cannot kill. This forces your team to follow up on every hook, which rarely happens consistently in solo queue environments. You end up dying after the stun ends because you lack the Q damage to threaten a trade. The enemy frontline simply ignores you and walks past to your backline.

Delaying Q max for any reason other than extreme augment synergy is a mistake. Camille’s identity in ARAM: Mayhem is that of a diver who deletes a key target. Without Q max, you are a low-damage distraction. The true damage is the only mechanic that keeps you relevant against the bruisers and tanks that dominate the mode. Respect the Q max, use E for positioning, and treat W as a utility slow rather than a primary skill.
