Team Synergy for Ivern
Ivern in Mayhem ARAM operates as a pure enabler and sustain engine. He does not deal significant damage, so his team must provide the threat while he provides the stamina, shields, and crowd control. He needs teammates who can capitalize on his engage tools or who possess high damage ratios to benefit from his extended fights. The champion functions best when the team has a clear carry to pocket or a dive composition to enable.
Core Team Functions Ivern Requires
- Reliable Damage Output: Ivern contributes almost zero kill pressure alone. He needs at least two teammates who can consistently output damage while he keeps them alive.
- Follow-Up Crowd Control: His Q (Root) and R (Daisy) set up kills, but they do not burst enemies. Teammates must have the instant damage or chain-CC to convert those openings into deaths.
- Frontline Presence: While Daisy acts as a temporary tank, Ivern himself is extremely squishy. A dedicated frontline or a diver helps draw aggro away from the backline.
Top Teammate Synergies
1. Kog'Maw (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: This is the classic "protect the carry" setup. Ivern’s shield provides a massive temporary health bar and a slow field, allowing Kog'Maw to kite freely without building defensive items. In Mayhem, where damage numbers are inflated, the flat damage reduction from shields becomes even more valuable.
Best Scenario: The enemy team lacks hard engage or assassins. Ivern shields Kog'Maw as he walks forward, using the shield’s slow to catch runners. Daisy peels divers, letting Kog'Maw stand still and output maximum DPS.
Enemy Answer: Hard engage compositions (like Malphite or Leona) that can bypass the shield and burst Kog'Maw before Ivern can react. Heavy poke can also wear down Ivern’s mana, leaving Kog'Maw exposed.
Failure Risk: If Ivern wastes shields on the wrong target or misses his Q, Kog'Maw has no escape tools. A single misstep usually results in a dead carry.
Recovery: If Kog'Maw dies, Ivern must switch to a secondary carry or play for a timeout. He cannot win 1v1 skirmishes, so he should disengage and wait for respawn waves.
2. Yasuo (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Ivern’s Q is a projectile that applies a root. This counts as a knock-up for Yasuo’s Last Breath (R). This gives Yasuo a reliable, long-range engage tool that most teams cannot predict. Additionally, Daisy’s knock-up provides a second window for Yasuo to ult.
Best Scenario: The enemy team groups tightly. Ivern lands a max-range Q on a key target. Yasuo instantly dashes in to ult, creating chaos while Ivern shields Yasuo and sends Daisy to disrupt the backline.
Enemy Answer: Smart opponents will track Ivern’s Q cooldown and spread out. If they dodge the root, Yasuo has no way to engage safely and may get poked down.
Failure Risk: Yasuo goes in too deep without Ivern’s shield active. Without the defensive stats, Yasuo melts in Mayhem’s high-damage environment.
Recovery: Ivern should save his W (Brush) to break enemy vision or use Daisy to body-block skillshots while Yasuo retreats. If Yasuo dies, Ivern loses his primary win condition.
3. Master Yi (Medium-High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Master Yi relies on staying alive long enough to reset his abilities. Ivern’s shield gives Yi the effective health to survive initial burst and get that first reset. Daisy also draws turret aggro or enemy focus, letting Yi clean up.
Best Scenario: A messy, extended teamfight where enemies have burned their major cooldowns. Ivern shields Yi as he Alpha Strikes in, ensuring Yi survives the exit. Daisy knocks up the enemy peelers.
Enemy Answer: Point-and-click crowd control (like Ryze W or Lissandra R) that ignores shields. If Yi is locked down, Ivern’s shields are useless.
Failure Risk: Yi gets caught out before Ivern is in range to shield. Ivern cannot rescue a teammate who is instantly deleted.
Recovery: Ivern must play further back. If Yi dies, Ivern should use Daisy to defend the tower or stall for the respawn timer.
4. Darius (Medium Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Darius struggles to reach enemies in ARAM without taking heavy poke. Ivern’s Q roots targets in place, allowing Darius to walk up and stack his passive. The shield also helps Darius survive the poke phase before he gets his healing online.
Best Scenario: The enemy team has short-range carries or melee bruisers. Ivern roots a target, Darius Apprehends (E) them, and the chain CC results in a quick kill.
Enemy Answer: Kiting. If the enemy team has high mobility or long-range slows (like Ashe or Jinx), Darius may never get in range to use the setup.
Failure Risk: Ivern plays too passively. Darius needs to snowball early stacks; if Ivern focuses on shielding the backline instead of enabling Darius, the lane stalls out.
Recovery: Switch focus to the ADC. If Darius cannot reach the fight, Ivern must keep the backline alive and use Daisy to push the wave.
5. Brand (Medium Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Brand provides the damage Ivern lacks, while Ivern provides the time Brand needs to land his combo. Brand is immobile and squishy; Ivern’s shield and Daisy’s peel allow Brand to stand his ground and cast his full rotation.
Best Scenario: Enemies dive the backline. Ivern shields Brand, slowing the attackers with the shield pop. Daisy knocks them up. Brand lands his full combo on the clumped enemies.
Enemy Answer: Assassins who can burst Brand faster than Ivern can shield. Zed or Talon can delete Brand before the shield application resolves.
Failure Risk: Ivern runs out of mana. Sustain supports burn resources quickly in Mayhem. If Ivern goes OOM, Brand becomes an easy target.
Recovery: Play for resets. If Brand dies, Ivern should use his remaining mana to wave clear with Daisy and wait for the next push.
