Team Synergy
Bard in Mayhem operates as a chaotic enabler. He does not function as a primary carry or a traditional tank; he creates windows of opportunity that other champions exploit. Because his healing shrines scale well and his Tempered Fate (R) can turn any engagement into a 50/50 coin flip, he pairs best with teammates who have high burst, strong zone control, or the ability to disengage and reset. He struggles with teammates who need sustained, clean fights or lack the damage to punish a stunned target.
Core Teammate Needs
- Reliable Hard CC: Bard’s Q, Cosmic Binding, needs a second target to stun. Teammates who can provide a body to chain off or set up the initial slow make his poke lethal.
- Zone Control: His Magical Journey (E) and R create movement paths or frozen zones. Allies with area-of-effect spells capitalize on enemies forced into tight spaces.
- Burst Damage: Bard’s shrine sustain keeps allies healthy, but he lacks the DPS to kill tanks. He needs executioners who can delete a target during a 1.8-second stasis.
Top Synergy Pairings
1. Yasuo (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Bard’s ultimate creates a perfect setup for Yasuo’s Last Breath (R). When Bard lands Tempered Fate on a group, Yasuo can instantly dash to the suspended targets for a massive multi-knockup combo. Even without the ultimate, Bard’s Q stun gives Yasuo an easy Airflow target.
Best Scenario: Bard freezes the enemy backline or entire team under their tower. Yasuo positions to ult immediately as the stasis ends, chaining crowd control while the enemy cannot react.
Enemy Answer: Smart opponents will save hard CC for Yasuo the moment stasis breaks. They may also rush Zhonya's or Guardian Angel to survive the burst chain.
Failure Risk: If Bard ults too early or too late, Yasuo gets nothing. A mistimed R can actually save enemies from Yasuo’s tornado projectile, wasting his cooldown.
Recovery: If the combo fails, Bard must use Magical Journey to create an escape route. He should drop shrines on the retreat path to heal Yasuo, allowing the team to reset and try again in 40 seconds.
2. Orianna (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: The Ball mechanics interact beautifully with Bard’s mobility. Bard can take the Ball through a Magical Journey, allowing Orianna to reposition her ultimate instantly across the map. Bard’s R also groups enemies perfectly for a Shockwave.
Best Scenario: Bard opens a tunnel through the enemy frontline. He carries the Ball into the middle of the enemy team. Orianna triggers Command: Shockwave as Bard exits, pulling enemies into a cluster for his Q stun.
Enemy Answer: Opponents will watch Bard’s movement closely. If they see the Ball on him, they will scatter the moment he tunnels, dodging the Shockwave radius.
Failure Risk: Bard dies before delivering the Ball. Without his body as a delivery system, Orianna lacks the range to reach priority targets in Mayhem’s stretched lanes.
Recovery: Bard should build tanky or buy Guardian Angel if acting as a delivery vessel. If he dies, he must drop shrines in the backline to keep Orianna healthy for a defensive ult.
3. Sion (Medium-High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Sion provides the massive hitbox Bard needs for Q chains. When Sion engages with his own R or Q, Bard can easily land a double-stun by chaining off Sion’s body. The combination of Sion’s death passive and Bard’s shrines creates a sustain war that enemies struggle to win.
Best Scenario: Sion charges his Q in a choke point. Bard places R on top of Sion to freeze enemies inside the Q charge zone. When stasis ends, Sion’s Q lands automatically on helpless targets.
Enemy Answer: Enemies can flash or dash out of the Sion Q zone during the stasis. They may also focus Bard first, removing the sustain and CC follow-up.
Failure Risk: Bard accidentally saves enemies with R by freezing them while Sion’s Q channel expires or his R passes through. Timing is strict here.
Recovery: If the combo desyncs, Bard falls back to a kiting playstyle. He drops shrines for Sion’s passive form and uses E to give the zombie Sion a speed boost toward enemies.
4. Miss Fortune (Medium Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Bard’s R acts as a setup tool for Bullet Time. A well-placed Tempered Fate holds enemies in place for the full duration of Miss Fortune’s ultimate. This is a classic "wombo combo" that works reliably in the narrow ARAM lane.
Best Scenario: Bard lands a 3-to-5 man ultimate. Miss Fortune channels Bullet Time immediately. The damage ticks through the stasis or starts the moment enemies unfreeze, resulting in a team wipe.
Enemy Answer: Any interrupt on Miss Fortune ruins the play. Enemies with instant shields, dashes, or their own Zhonya's can negate the damage window.
Failure Risk: Bard ults enemies who are already low health, effectively shielding them from Miss Fortune’s pokes. He must ensure enemies are healthy enough to be worth freezing, or low enough to die to the R alone.
Recovery: If Miss Fortune is interrupted, Bard uses Q to peel divers off her. He creates a Magical Journey to reposition her to safety, transitioning into a poke-and-sustain game.
5. Pyke (Medium Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Both champions thrive on chaos and high mobility. Bard’s shrines provide the sustain Pyke lacks, allowing him to dive repeatedly without recalling. Bard’s stun sets up Pyke’s hook and ult execute.
Best Scenario: Bard stuns a target against a wall or minion. Pyke lands the hook for a free kill. If the enemy survives, Bard’s R can freeze the target at execute threshold, letting Pyke wait for his R reset.
Enemy Answer: Hard CC shuts down Pyke’s dive. If the enemy team has point-and-click stuns, Pyke cannot go in, rendering Bard’s setup useless.
Failure Risk: Bard’s R can accidentally prevent Pyke from executing a target. If Bard freezes an enemy at 10% HP, Pyke cannot ult them, and the kill may be stolen or lost.
Recovery: Communication is key. Bard should save R for the enemy team’s peel, not the execute target. If the dive fails, Bard uses E to get Pyke out of the tower range quickly.
Team Function Gaps
Bard teams almost always lack a dedicated frontline. He cannot block skillshots or soak damage like a true tank. The team needs a champion willing to stand in the front and absorb pressure. Additionally, Bard offers very little waveclear. Against heavy push comps, the team will struggle to reach the shrines or set up tunnels. A partner with strong waveclear like Ziggs, Sivir, or Xerath is essential to prevent the team from being suffocated under tower. Without these elements, Bard’s utility feels wasted because the team never gets the chance to engage or heal up.
