Team Synergy

Pyke operates as a reset-based execution engine in Mayhem, where the accelerated gold generation and constant fighting turn his ultimate into a team-wide snowball mechanism. He does not function as a primary engage tank or a traditional healer. He needs teammates who can crush health bars down to his execute threshold and keep him alive long enough to dash through the chaos. If your team lacks reliable damage to set up his threshold, or lacks crowd control to protect his wind-up, Pyke becomes a squishy melee creep who dies before his R animation finishes.

Core Team Needs

  • Heavy Burst or Poke: Teammates must rapidly chunk enemies to 30-40% health so Pyke can secure resets. He cannot kill full-health targets efficiently.
  • Hard Crowd Control: He needs setup for his Q hook and E stun. Pre-emptive stuns or knockups allow him to land his full combo without getting interrupted.
  • Peel and Protection: Pyke is fragile and dives deep. He relies on allies to zone threats off him while his Passive heals him up after a near-death escape.

Top Synergy Pairings

  1. Varus (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Varus provides the long-range poke necessary to chunk the entire enemy team, creating multiple low-health targets for Pyke’s ultimate. His R also sets up a guaranteed Pyke E dash.
Combo: Varus lands a long-range Q or R on a priority target. If the target drops near execute range, Pyke flashes or uses Ghost to R immediately. If Varus hits his R Chain of Corruption, Pyke follows with E into the rooted target for a guaranteed stun and kill.
Best Scenario: A poke war where Varus softens the enemy backline. Pyke hides in the fog or behind minions, waiting for the moment a squishy target hits 40% HP to dive and reset.
Enemy Answer: Enemies rush Varus with hard engage to stop the poke. They buy Edge of Night or Banshee's to block the initiating pick tool.
Failure Risk: If Varus misses his poke or gets assassinated early, Pyke has no way to lower enemy health bars safely. He is forced to engage on full-health targets, which usually results in his death.
Recovery: Pyke plays for disengage with E and W, waiting for Varus to respawn or find his rhythm. He looks for cleanup kills on enemies who overextend after diving the ADC.

  2. Malphite (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Malphite offers the instant, unstoppable engage that Pyke lacks. His R knocks up the entire enemy team, holding them perfectly still for Pyke’s delayed abilities.
Combo: Malphite presses R into the enemy cluster. Pyke follows instantly with E through the knocked-up group, extending the crowd control chain. Pyke then Qs a priority target and Rs the cluster for a potential pentakill.
Best Scenario: The enemy team groups tightly near a tower or objective. Malphite engages, and Pyke cashes in on the chaos with multiple R resets.
Enemy Answer: Tanks build Armor and Health to survive the burst. Squishies buy Zhonya's Hourglass or Guardian Angel to stall out the engage.
Failure Risk: If Malphite engages too deep without Pyke in range to follow up, he dies alone. If Pyke follows too slowly, the enemy recovers from the knockup and focuses Pyke down during his R animation.
Recovery: Pyke uses W to drop aggro and reposition. If Malphite dies, Pyke shifts to a cleanup role, waiting for enemies to burn cooldowns on his remaining teammates before diving back in.

  3. Brand (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Brand brings the area-of-effect burst damage required to drop multiple enemies into execute range simultaneously. His passive burn ensures that even survivors continue to lose HP.
Combo: Brand lands his full combo (Q-E-W-R) on a grouped enemy team. As the burst damage hits and HP bars plummet, Pyke R sweeps through the cluster. The burn damage often forces enemies into the execute threshold just as Pyke’s R connects.
Best Scenario: Chaos in the center of the bridge. Brand’s ultimate bounces between low-health targets, and Pyke acts as the finisher, securing gold for the whole squad.
Enemy Answer: Enemies rush Quicksilver or build Magic Resist. They spread out to prevent Brand’s passive from bouncing.
Failure Risk: Brand has no peel. If a Zed or Talon dives him, he dies before casting his rotation. Pyke then faces a full-health enemy team with no setup.
Recovery: Pyke peels for Brand using Q and E, prioritizing survival over kills. He waits for Brand to return or for the enemy to overcommit, then looks for a counter-engage stun.

  4. Ornn (Medium-High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Ornn provides the durability and crowd control Pyke needs to survive the initial engagement. His R creates a massive knockup setup that lines up enemies for Pyke’s R.
Combo: Ornn initiates with R, knocking up the enemy line. Pyke follows the trajectory with E, stunning the airborn targets. Ornn then uses his brittle combo on the primary target, allowing Pyke to Q and R for a quick kill.
Best Scenario: Sustained team fights where Ornn acts as the anchor. Pyke weaves in and out of combat, executing targets Ornn has weakened.
Enemy Answer: Mobile carries dodge Ornn’s R. Enemies focus Pyke immediately after Ornn’s cooldowns are spent.
Failure Risk: Ornn lacks the burst to set up kills alone. If Pyke gets caught out before the fight starts, Ornn is left with damage but no execution power.
Recovery: Pyke plays passively, using W to scout and waiting for Ornn to land a knockup. He avoids diving until Ornn has engaged and drawn enemy cooldowns.

  5. Seraphine (Medium Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Seraphine offers the sustain and crowd control extension that keeps Pyke alive through his dives. Her R can chain off Pyke’s engage to lock down the entire enemy team.
Combo: Pyke lands a Q hook or E stun on a frontline target. He dashes in. Seraphine follows with R, extending the crowd control and hitting the backline. Pyke then Rs the stunned group.
Best Scenario: Poke-sustain compositions where Pyke can repeatedly dive, escape, and heal up with Seraphine’s support. Her shields allow him to survive burst that would otherwise kill him.
Enemy Answer: Anti-heal reduces Seraphine’s sustain. Hard engage bypasses her poke and forces her to use R defensively.
Failure Risk: Seraphine lacks the burst to set up Pyke’s R on her own. If she uses R at the wrong time, Pyke has no setup for his combo.
Recovery: Pyke disengages and waits for Seraphine’s cooldowns. He plays a more defensive role, peeling for her with Q and E until she can provide another engage window.
