Laning Phase and Spacing

Nidalee in Mayhem ARAM lives and dies by her spacing. You are not a frontliner. You are a siege engine that needs a wall of teammates in front of you. Start every fight at maximum Javelin Toss range. If you can hit a minion from max range without moving forward, do it. If you have to walk up past your melee minions to throw a spear, you are overextended and will get engaged on.

The single-lane format removes your ability to flank, so you must master the back-and-forth rhythm. Throw a spear, step back. Throw a spear, step sideways. Never stand still after throwing. A stationary Nidalee is an easy target for Mayhem-empowered skillshots. Use the width of the bridge to create angles. If the enemy team groups up, aim for the edges of their formation rather than trying to thread a needle through the center.

Spear Hit Confirmation and Cougar Form

Landing a max-range spear is your green light to go in. If you hit a hunted target, immediately switch to Cougar Form and use W to pounce on them. The reset on your pounce is what separates a good Nidalee from a great one. Do not pounce in without the Hunt debuff unless you are cleaning up a low-health target that cannot fight back. Unforced pounces put you in the middle of the enemy team with no escape plan.

If you miss your spear, stay in human form and kite back. Do not switch to Cougar Form just to run away unless you are already being chased. The movement speed from your passive helps you reposition without burning your escape cooldown. Save your Cougar W for when you actually need to jump a wall or dodge a critical ability.

Snowball Timing and Usage

Snowball is your emergency engage tool, not your primary starter. Do not use Snowball to start a fight from full range. You are too squishy to be the first one in. Instead, use Snowball to close the gap after you land a long-range spear on a hunted target. Mark them with the spear, let the Snowball fly, and then decide if you want to go in or just chunk them for free damage.

Snowball also serves as a dodge tool. If a heavy engage champion like Malphite or Leona commits to you, Snowball over their head to their backline. This forces them to turn around and gives your team a window to collapse. In a pinch, Snowball to a minion to escape a bad position. Never hold Snowball when you are dead; it is better to use it and survive than to die with it off cooldown.

Target Priority and Focus

Your primary targets are the enemy backline carries and squishy supports. A max-range spear on an ADC forces them to recall or play passively for the next ten seconds. Do not waste your cooldowns on the enemy tank unless they are the only target available. Chunking a tank for 30% of their health is not worth the mana and cooldown if their ADC is still full health and shooting your team.

Look for targets that have already used their mobility or defensive cooldowns. A Flash-less mage is a free kill if you land a spear. Track major cooldowns like Zhonya's Hourglass, Guardian Angel, and major ultimates. If the enemy has a summoner spell advantage, play more aggressively. If they have all their cooldowns up, play for poke and wait for them to make a mistake.

Push and Pull Rhythm

Nidalee excels at the push-and-pull rhythm of ARAM. When your team has pressure, step up and siege. Throw spears at the tower to force the enemy to dodge in place. When the enemy has pressure, give ground freely. Do not die for a tower. Your waveclear in Cougar Form is decent, but you should prioritize clearing from human form with auto-attacks and spears when possible. Save Cougar W for escaping if the enemy tries to dive.

If your team gets a pick and has a numbers advantage, switch to Cougar Form and rush the tower. Your attack speed buff from your heal helps your team take objectives faster. If the enemy gets a pick, back off immediately. You cannot 1v5 in Mayhem ARAM. Reset, heal up, and fight with a full team next time.

Dive Timing and Execution

Diving as Nidalee is high-risk, high-reward. Only dive when you have a clear numbers advantage or when the enemy is low enough that a single Cougar combo will kill them. Never dive first. Let your tank or bruiser go in, absorb the tower aggro, and then follow up with a spear and pounce. If the dive goes wrong, immediately switch to human form and heal yourself or your ally to mitigate tower shot damage.

Be aware of the tower's damage ramp-up in Mayhem. Towers hit harder and faster than in Summoner's Rift. If you take more than two shots, you are probably dead. Use your Cougar W to exit tower range as soon as the kill is secured. Do not chase under the tower for an extra auto-attack unless it is guaranteed to secure a kill.

Behind-State Damage Control

When your team is behind, Nidalee's role shifts from playmaker to punisher. Stop trying to force engages. You do not have the damage to burst down a fed enemy frontliner. Instead, play for counter-engage. Wait for the enemy to overextend, then land a spear on the most aggressive target. Your goal is not to kill them, but to chunk them enough that they have to back off.

Use your heal to keep your actual carries alive. If your ADC or mid-laner is the only one doing damage, pocket them. The attack speed buff is valuable even when you are behind. Stay in human form more often and only go Cougar to execute a low-health target or escape. Every death when you are behind extends the enemy's lead, so play for survival over damage.

Augment Trigger Windows

Many augments in Mayhem ARAM trigger on ability use or on-hit effects. Time your Cougar form abilities to stack these triggers efficiently. If you have an augment that gives bonus damage on ability hit, weave your Cougar Q and W together to double-dip on the proc. If you have a healing augment, your human E becomes a massive sustain tool for your team. Use it on cooldown during lulls in the fight, not just when someone is low.

For augment windows that require multiple hits, use your Cougar W to travel through the enemy team. This can trigger on-hit effects on multiple targets if the augment allows it. Always check your augment descriptions at the start of the game and adjust your playstyle to maximize their value. A Nidalee that plays around her augments will always outperform one that plays a generic pattern.

Counter-Engage and Escape

When the enemy engages on you, your first instinct should be to run, not fight. Use your passive movement speed to create distance. If they commit hard, use Snowball to escape over their heads or to a distant minion. Only turn and fight if you have a clear spear on a hunted target and your team is in position to follow up.

Your Cougar E is a small execute, but it is also an escape tool. If you are near a jungle camp or a minion wave, use W to jump away, then switch to human form and heal yourself. Never fight a losing battle. Nidalee's strength is in her ability to choose her fights. If you cannot win the fight, do not take it.
