Team Synergy
Ezreal functions best as a poke-centric, mobile carry who wants to fish for Q damage from safety. He does not want to be the primary engage tool, nor does he want to be the sole frontline. In Mayhem, where cooldowns are short and damage is high, he needs teammates who can either lock enemies down for his skillshots or create a distraction so he can freely stack his passive. He brings consistent physical damage and strong objective control with his ultimate, but he lacks reliable crowd control and hard disengage.
What Ezreal Needs Most
- Reliable Setup: Teammates with point-and-click CC or large zone control to guarantee his Mystic Shot and Trueshot Barrage connections.
- Frontline Distraction: A durable initiator who draws enemy cooldowns, allowing Ezreal to kite freely on the backline.
- Magic Damage Supplement: Partners who provide burst magic damage to prevent enemies from stacking armor against him.
Top Teammate Synergies
1. Malphite
Synergy Mechanism: This is the classic "knockup into nuke" combo. Malphite forces enemies to group up or flee, creating perfect geometry for Ezreal's abilities.
Combo: Malphite engages with R (Unstoppable Force). As soon as enemies are knocked up, Ezreal fires R (Trueshot Barrage) through the clump, followed by an immediate W (Essence Flux) and Q (Mystic Shot) to proc the attack speed buff and clean up.
Best Scenario: The enemy team is grouped near a tower or choke point. Malphite lands a multi-man knockup, and Ezreal deletes the backline before they can recover.
Enemy Answer: Tanks with pure health or Force of Nature can survive the initial burst. Enemies with quick flash reactions or Zhonya's Hourglass can dodge the follow-up.
Failure Risk: If Malphite misses his R or engages too deep without backup, Ezreal cannot follow up safely. Ezreal is left poking from a distance while Malphite dies.
Recovery: Ezreal should disengage immediately using E (Arcane Shift) if the combo fails. He resets the fight by poking from max range until Malphite’s cooldowns return.
2. Orianna
Synergy Mechanism: Orianna offers zone control and a setup tool that Ezreal lacks. Her ball placement creates a threat zone that funnels enemies into Ezreal’s skillshots.
Combo: Orianna places the ball on a frontline ally or the ground. When enemies approach, she casts R (Command: Shockwave) to pull them in. Ezreal lines up a guaranteed R or unloads his full rotation into the stationary targets.
Best Scenario: A chaotic teamfight where enemies are dodging the ball but get caught by the sudden shockwave. The pull centers them perfectly for Ezreal’s linear spells.
Enemy Answer: High mobility champions like Zed or Fizz can dash out of the shockwave radius before Ezreal’s projectiles land. Cleanse or QSS can also break the disable early.
Failure Risk: Orianna misses her R or whiffs the ball placement. The team lacks the burst to secure kills, and the fight turns into a stalemate.
Recovery: Both champions excel at resetting. Orianna uses her shield and speed boost to help Ezreal reposition. They retreat to the tower and resume the poke war.
3. Yasuo
Synergy Mechanism: Yasuo’s windwall and ultimate create a deadly synergy with Ezreal’s projectile spam. The windwall buys Ezreal time to stack his passive and look for an all-in.
Combo: Yasuo lands a knockup on a priority target and casts R (Last Breath). While the enemy is suspended, Ezreal fires R for guaranteed damage. During the scrap, Yasuo’s windwall blocks enemy return fire, letting Ezreal weave in close-range Qs safely.
Best Scenario: The enemy team relies on projectile CC or poke. Yasuo blocks the key threat, dives the backline, and Ezreal follows up with burst damage.
Enemy Answer: Champions with non-projectile crowd control like Singed or Swain can bypass the windwall and disrupt Ezreal’s rhythm. Burst mages can also delete Yasuo before he gets value.
Failure Risk: Yasuo dives too deep and gets isolated. Ezreal cannot commit to the fight without dying and is forced to watch his teammate fall.
Recovery: Ezreal uses his E to reposition to a safer angle. He switches to a kiting posture, using Q to slow pursuers while Yasuo attempts to escape with his dash.
4. Braum
Synergy Mechanism: Braum acts as a mobile shield and setup tool. His passive stun allows Ezreal to land skillshots on mobile targets, and his E (Unbreakable) protects Ezreal from enemy poke.
Combo: Braum hits an enemy with Q (Winter’s Bite) or an auto-attack to start the passive stun. Ezreal follows with a guaranteed Q and E-auto combo. For a teamfight, Braum casts R (Glacial Fissure) to knockup and slow the enemy line, setting up Ezreal’s R.
Best Scenario: Against a heavy poke composition. Braum jumps in front of Ezreal to block enemy Mystic Shots or Darkins, allowing Ezreal to farm safely and look for openings.
Enemy Answer: Flanking assassins who ignore the shield. If Zed or Talon jumps over Braum, the shield is useless.
Failure Risk: Braum misses his Q and R. The engage fails, and the team lacks damage to win a straight brawl.
Recovery: Braum uses his shield to cover the retreat. Ezreal kites backward, using his own mobility to stay out of range until cooldowns reset.
5. Leona
Synergy Mechanism: Leona provides the longest duration of point-and-click lockdown in the game. She creates a window where even the slipperiest targets cannot dodge Ezreal’s damage.
Combo: Leona lands E (Zenith Blade) and Q (Shield of Daybreak) to stun a target. She immediately casts R (Solar Flare) on the clumped enemy team. Ezreal fires R into the stun zone, effectively deleting the primary target and chunking the rest.
Best Scenario: Picking off a lone enemy or starting a fight on a squishy carry. The chain CC ensures the target dies before they can flash or heal.
Enemy Answer: A dedicated peeling support like Janna or Soraka can keep Leona off the carry. If the enemy frontline intercepts Leona, she wastes her cooldowns on a tank.
Failure Risk: Leona engages on a tank or gets kited. She dies deep in enemy territory, leaving Ezreal without a frontline.
Recovery: Ezreal must not follow the engage. He turns and runs, using his E to cross terrain if possible. He stalls for his own cooldowns and looks for a cleanup opportunity if enemies overextend.
