Team Synergy

Darius functions best as a frontline anchor who wants extended fights. He needs teammates who can engage for him, keep enemies in his pull range, or cover his lack of ranged pressure. In Mayhem, where poke and burst are amplified, Darius relies on his team to create the opening he needs to stack Hemorrhage and execute.

Top Teammate Synergies

  1. Leona (High Value)

    • Synergy Mechanism: Leona provides the lockdown Darius lacks. Her Zenith Blade and Shield of Daylight root targets in place, giving Darius a free window to land Apprehend and start stacking.
    • Combo: Leona lands Zenith Blade onto a priority target. She follows with Shield of Daylight root. Darius walks up during the root, Apprehends if they flash, and starts his basic attack rotation. Leona's Solar Flare can chain CC if the target tries to escape.
    • Best Scenario: Leona engages onto a squishy backliner who has used their escape tool. Darius follows the engage and deletes the target with a full five-stack Noxian Guillotine.
    • Enemy Answer: The enemy team can peel Leona with disengage tools like Janna's Howling Gale or Gragas' Explosive Cask. If Leona goes in alone and dies before Darius arrives, the fight turns bad.
    • Failure Risk: Leona engages too deep under enemy tower or into a full enemy team. Darius cannot follow without dying to focus fire.
    • Recovery: If Leona dies, Darius should disengage and reset. Do not force a bad fight just because an ally went in.
  2. Orianna (High Value)

    • Synergy Mechanism: Orianna's Command: Shockwave groups enemies together. This setup guarantees Darius lands his Decimate on multiple targets and makes Apprehend nearly impossible to miss.
    • Combo: Orianna places the ball on Darius or an engage ally. When enemies cluster, she casts Shockwave. As enemies pull toward the center, Darius Apprehends the grouped targets, hits a multi-man Decimate, and starts stacking on the cluster.
    • Best Scenario: The enemy team groups for a push or objective. Orianna lands a 3-4 man Shockwave. Darius follows with Apprehend and turns the grouped enemies into healing and damage sources.
    • Enemy Answer: Enemies spread out before Orianna can ult. They may also burst Orianna before she gets the cast off, leaving Darius without his setup.
    • Failure Risk: Orianna whiffs Shockwave or uses it too early. Darius goes in without the zone control and gets kited down.
    • Recovery: If the combo fails, Darius should back off and let his cooldowns reset. Do not chase scattered enemies without Apprehend available.
  3. Yasuo (Medium-High Value)

    • Synergy Mechanism: Yasuo's Last Breath works on any airborne target. Darius does not have a knockup, but Yasuo's Wind Wall blocks the ranged damage that usually stops Darius from reaching his target.
    • Combo: Yasuo uses Wind Wall to block incoming poke. Darius walks through the wall and Apprehends a target. Yasuo dashes through minions to follow, and if any other teammate provides a knockup, Yasuo ults to keep targets suspended for Darius stacks.
    • Best Scenario: The enemy team relies on projectile poke. Yasuo Wind Wall cuts their damage output, and Darius uses the cover to engage on the closest target.
    • Enemy Answer: Enemies walk around the Wind Wall or use non-projectile abilities. They may also focus Yasuo first if he dashes in too deep.
    • Failure Risk: Yasuo uses Wind Wall at the wrong angle or time. Darius takes full poke damage before he can close the gap.
    • Recovery: If Wind Wall fails, Darius should use Snowball to gap close or retreat to a health relic. Do not force a run through open ground into a poke comp.
  4. Sion (Medium Value)

    • Synergy Mechanism: Sion provides a meat shield and a long-range engage with Unstoppable Onslaught. Darius can follow Sion's charge and clean up the targets Sion disrupts.
    • Combo: Sion channels his ultimate down a lane. He crashes into the enemy team and knocks them up. Darius follows the engage, Apprehends targets trying to flee the crash site, and starts his damage rotation while Sion tanks the initial burst.
    • Best Scenario: Sion lands a multi-man knockup. Darius arrives as the second wave of CC and damage, catching enemies who used their escapes to survive Sion's engage.
    • Enemy Answer: Enemies sidestep Sion's charge. Sion dies alone in the enemy backline without backup.
    • Failure Risk: Sion engages when Darius is too far to follow. Darius gets caught in a 1v5 if he tries to save the play.
    • Recovery: If Sion misses his ult, Darius should not commit. Wait for Sion to respawn or look for a pick with Snowball instead.
  5. Soraka (Medium Value)

    • Synergy Mechanism: Soraka extends Darius's sustain. Darius already heals from Decimate on bleeding targets. Soraka's Astral Infusion and Wish keep him alive through the burst damage common in Mayhem.
    • Combo: Darius engages and starts taking damage. Soraka heals him as his health drops. Darius lands Decimate on multiple targets, triggering Iron Skin effects and his own healing. The combined sustain makes him very hard to kill.
    • Best Scenario: A prolonged teamfight where Darius can stack and heal repeatedly. Soraka's global ult saves him from a burst execute, allowing him to drop a Noxian Guillotine and reset.
    • Enemy Answer: Enemies focus Soraka first. Without her heals, Darius loses his safety net. Anti-heal items like Morellonomicon or Bramble Vest cut the sustain in half.
    • Failure Risk: Soraka positions too far forward and dies early. Darius engages expecting heals and gets burst down.
    • Recovery: If Soraka dies, Darius must play more carefully. Rely on Decimate healing only and look for isolated picks rather than extended brawls.

Team Functions Darius Needs

  • Reliable Engage: Darius struggles to start fights against ranged comps. He needs a teammate who can force a fight or create an opening.
  • Hard CC or Roots: Apprehend has a short range. Teammates who can root or stun a target make it easy for Darius to land his pull and start his stack timer.
  • Projectile Block or Wind Wall Effects: Mayhem amplifies poke damage. A teammate who can block projectiles or provide a shield helps Darius close the gap without losing half his health.
  • Follow-Up Damage: Darius can stack and execute, but he needs teammates who can burst down targets he catches. If he pulls a carry, the team needs to collapse immediately.
