Targets Zac Punishes

Zac thrives in Mayhem because the mode's reduced cooldowns and increased healing allow him to sustain through poke that would normally force him off the wave. He punishes opponents who lack the burst to kill his passive blobs or the mobility to escape his sustained engage.

  • Veigar: Veigar wants to stack his Event Horizon cage and burst you down, but Zac's Elastic Slingshot engages from outside typical cage range. If Veigar traps you, you often survive the burst due to Mayhem-enhanced sustain and revive. Punish him whenever his cage is on cooldown. His immobility makes him an easy target for your full combo, and he cannot stop you from collecting blobs to heal back his damage.
  • Kog'Maw: Kog'Maw relies on long-range poke and sustained damage, but he has zero escape tools. Once you land a Slingshot or hit a max-range Stretching Strike, he has to flash or die. Even if he kills you, your passive blobs and potential revive give your team time to collapse. Dive him on every engage and force him to itemize for survival instead of damage.
  • Ashe: Her perma-slow is annoying, but it does not stop Zac from charging Slingshot. She lacks the burst to kill you before you close the gap, and her ultimate is often wasted on a tank with revive mechanics. Engage when her Volley is down, run her down with Cell Division healing, and force her to play under tower where she cannot poke effectively.
  • Varus: Varus wants to poke and kite, but his only disengage is his ultimate. If you bait out his Chain of Corruption or engage from an angle he cannot react to, he crumbles. His poke damage is high, but in Mayhem you heal through it by collecting blobs during the fight. Do not give him free poke; engage hard and force him to fight at close range where he loses.
  • Brand: Brand deals massive area damage, but Zac loves fights where everyone stands close together because every champion hit spawns blobs. Brand's stun is a skillshot you can dodge mid-air during Slingshot. If he misses his combo, he has no mobility to escape. Force extended fights where your sustain outpaces his cooldowns, and punish his immobility with repeated engages.

Threats That Punish Zac

Zac struggles against champions who can execute his passive blobs quickly, apply healing reduction, or burst him down before he generates value from his sustain. In Mayhem, these threats are even more dangerous because they can cycle their anti-heal and burst tools faster.

  • Katarina: Katarina is a nightmare because her ultimate applies Grievous Wounds and shreds through your health before you can collect blobs. Even worse, her daggers easily execute your passive blobs during your revive animation, killing you permanently. Avoid engaging her alone. Wait for her to commit her Shunpo, then peel for your carries. If she gets ahead, build early anti-heal and focus on disruption over pure engage.
  • Veigar (late-game threat): While Zac punishes Veigar early, a fed Veigar with enough ability power can one-shot you through your sustain and delete your revive blobs with a single Dark Matter. The danger window opens once he completes his core items. Do not face-check bushes, and engage with your team nearby so they can punish him if he dumps his combo on you.
  • Tristana: Tristana's Explosive Charge plants on you during engages, and her rapid attacks stack it to full detonation quickly. Her Rocket Jump resets on kills, meaning she can execute your revive blobs instantly if you die near her. Engage only when her Jump is down, and do not dive her alone. Peel for your team instead of trying to catch a mobile carry who can kite you indefinitely.
  • Miss Fortune: Her Make It Rain and Bullet Rain apply Grievous Wounds constantly, shutting down your healing. Her ultimate can wipe your entire team if you engage and cluster together. The danger is that you become the anchor for her area damage. Engage from angles, force her to reposition, and avoid standing in her ultimate zone while your revive blobs are active.
  • Master Yi: Yi ignores your slows with his ultimate, cuts through your healing with his passive and items, and can Alpha Strike through your revive blobs to kill them. You cannot kite him, and you cannot out-sustain his damage. Your only play is to hold your abilities for when he commits, then knock him up and hope your team bursts him. Never try to duel him.

Damage Control and Risk Boundaries

Against heavy anti-heal comps, accept that your sustain is reduced and play more like a traditional engage tank. Do not overstay in fights where your blobs get deleted instantly. If the enemy has strong blob execution like Katarina or Tristana, communicate with your team to zone them away from your revive zone. Your engage is still valuable, but your margin for error shrinks significantly when they can deny your passive.

Bait key cooldowns before committing. Against Veigar, wait for the cage. Against Tristana, track her Rocket Jump. Against Brand, dodge the stun. In Mayhem, cooldowns are shorter, so these windows are brief, but they still exist. A failed engage is not fatal if you revive, but a failed engage where they kill your blobs is a lost teamfight.
