Targets Qiyana Punishes

Qiyana thrives against immobile backliners who cannot dodge her Elemental Wrath and Royal Deception combo. In Mayhem's chaotic environment, her ability to isolate a target with Terrane Q and chain crowd control makes her a nightmare for squishy champions who lack self-peel.

  • Jinx: Jinx has no dash to escape Qiyana's engage. When Qiyana lands a Bush W into Q, she goes invisible and closes the gap for free. Jinx relies on her traps for protection, but Qiyana can wait out the chompers or dash over them with E. Once Qiyana gets on top of her, the burst window is too fast for Jinx to reset her passive and run. Jinx dies before she can get a single auto attack off if Qiyana lands the full combo.
  • Kog'Maw: Kog'Maw needs to stand still to output damage, which makes him an easy target for Qiyana's River Q stun. Even if Kog'Maw builds defensive items, Qiyana's isolation mechanics prevent him from receiving help from his team. The danger window is the moment Kog'Maw commits to an auto-attack animation. Qiyana punishes that commitment with a dash, stun, and ultimate into the wall. There is no recovery for Kog'Maw once the isolation ring appears.
  • Varus: Varus depends on landing his own ultimate to survive, but Qiyana can dodge it with her E or simply out-range the engage with her own R. If Varus misses his R, he has zero mobility to escape Qiyana's Bush stealth approach. Qiyana forces Varus to play far back, reducing his poke effectiveness. In a straight-up duel, Qiyana's burst deletes Varus before he can stack his blight passive for a meaningful detonation.
  • Veigar: Veigar's cage is terrifying for most melee champions, but Qiyana can dash out of it or use Terrane Q to stun him before he reacts. The key is patience. Qiyana should not face-check the cage. Instead, she uses Bush W to flank from an angle Veigar does not expect. Once she breaks his zone control, Veigar has no health or mobility to survive the all-in. His burst window is slower than hers, giving her the kill priority.

Threats That Punish Qiyana

Qiyana is fragile. She relies entirely on her stealth, dash, and ultimate to survive. Champions with persistent area denial, point-and-click crowd control, or heavy burst mitigation shut her down before she can reset her cooldowns. In Mayhem, death timers and damage values are high, so a single mistake against these counters usually means instant death.

  • Malzahar: Malzahar is the hardest counter to Qiyana's playstyle. His passive shield blocks her initial Q poke, forcing her to waste cooldowns. The real threat is Nether Grasp. Malzahar can suppress Qiyana the moment she becomes visible, even if she tries to dive the backline. Qiyana cannot QSS or outplay a point-and-click suppression in Mayhem's damage environment. She gets deleted before the duration ends. The risk boundary is simple: if Malzahar has his R, Qiyana cannot engage.
  • Lissandra: Lissandra neutralizes Qiyana's mobility with her own point-and-click ultimate. When Qiyana dives in with E, Lissandra can instantly self-cast R, stunning Qiyana and dealing massive damage while staying safe. Qiyana's isolation ring works against her here; if she isolates Lissandra near a wall, Lissandra's self-R also damages Qiyana in close range. Lissandra's W root also stops Qiyana's dash mid-flight if timed well. Qiyana must wait for Lissandra to waste her cooldowns before looking for an angle.
  • Rammus: Rammus turns Qiyana's burst against her. His defensive ball curl reflects damage to attackers, and in Mayhem, the reflect values are significant. If Qiyana tries to burst him down, she kills herself. Rammus also has a taunt that forces Qiyana to auto-attack him, breaking her stealth and canceling her combo flow. The danger window is the taunt duration. Rammus can engage on Qiyana with his rolling speed, forcing her to use her ultimate defensively rather than offensively.
  • Leona: Leona's lockdown chain prevents Qiyana from executing her combo. Leona can start with her Zenith Blade, follow with a Q stun, and finish with an R. Even if Qiyana uses Bush W to go invisible, Leona's R is an area-of-effect stun that can catch her in stealth. Qiyana cannot burst through Leona's massive resistances in the early to mid-game. Engaging on a Leona is a trap; Qiyana should always look for the squishy targets behind Leona, but Leona's presence makes that approach nearly impossible.
  • Brand: Brand does not need to target Qiyana directly to kill her. His passive spreads burns across the entire team, and his W and R cover large areas. In Mayhem, the damage-over-time ticks are lethal. Qiyana has low health pools and no natural sustain. If she dives into a team Brand has already ignited, she dies to the passive spread even if she kills her target. She must flank after Brand uses his cooldowns, or she melts before her stealth runs out.

Playing Qiyana in Mayhem is about timing. She punishes players who stand still or rely on slow skillshots. She gets punished by champions who do not need to aim or who force her to fight on their terms. Respect the point-and-click suppression champions, and wait for them to show their cooldowns before committing to the dive.
