Team Synergy
Irelia in Mayhem ARAM operates as a reset-driven dive bomber. She needs to stack her passive, land the E stun, and ride the Q resets to delete backliners. Because Mayhem amplifies damage and reduces cooldowns, she dies if she dives alone but becomes unstoppable if she has a window to stack her passive without getting burst down. She is not a primary engage tool; she is a follow-up menace who cleans up fights that have already started.
What Irelia Needs From Her Team
- Reliable Hard Engage: Someone must force the enemy to burn cooldowns or group up before Irelia commits.
- Disengage or Peel: If the dive goes wrong, she needs a safety net to reset her health or position.
- Wave Shove: She struggles to stack her passive on champions alone; she needs minions to Q through for the reset.
Top Teammate Synergies
1. Yasuo (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: This is the classic "wind wall" combo. Irelia dives deep, drawing aggro and projectile fire, while Yasuo denies the enemy’s ability to punish her approach. Beyond the wall, Yasuo’s knock-up sets up Irelia’s R, which then sets up Yasuo’s own R.
Best Scenario: Irelia lands an E stun on a grouped enemy. Yasuo walls behind them to block support peel, then dashes in. Irelia Ults to apply the slow and marks, and Yasuo ults the airborne targets. This usually wipes a squishy team in seconds.
Enemy Answer: Hard disengage supports like Janna or Gragas can cancel the follow-up. If the enemy has heavy point-and-click CC (like Lissandra or Ryze), the wall does not save her.
Failure Risk: If Yasuo walls too early, the enemy simply waits it out and then focuses Irelia. If he walls too late, she dies before it activates.
Recovery: If the dive fails, Irelia must Q to a distant minion to escape. Yasuo can use his own dashes to body-block skillshots during the retreat.
2. Orianna (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: The "Ball Delivery Service." Irelia is an aggressive diver who naturally wants to sit on top of enemies. Orianna places the ball on Irelia before the fight, letting her carry the Shockwave threat into the enemy backline.
Best Scenario: Irelia Qs onto a priority target. Orianna instantly activates R. The enemy is pulled into Irelia’s blade circle, guaranteeing her R damage and the slow. This makes it almost impossible for the enemy to dodge her passive procs.
Enemy Answer: Quick reaction knock-backs (Poppy, Azir) can separate Irelia from the ball or push her out of Orianna’s ult range before it detonates.
Failure Risk: If Irelia gets burst down instantly, the ball falls to the ground in the middle of the enemy team, leaving Orianna exposed and wasting the ult opportunity.
Recovery: Orianna should save her E (Protect) shield for the dive. If Irelia gets low, the shield helps her survive long enough to Q out.
3. Malphite (Strong Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Instant lockdown setup. Malphite provides the "go" button that Irelia lacks. His R forces the enemy to burn flashes and defensive sums, creating a chaotic window for Irelia to stack her passive and dive.
Best Scenario: Malphite lands a multi-man ult. Irelia follows immediately with her own R to catch the targets trying to scatter. The chain CC prevents the enemy from kiting, which is Irelia's biggest weakness.
Enemy Answer: A well-timed Zhonya's Hourglass or Guardian Angel on the primary target wastes the combo. Cleanse or QSS on the enemy ADC can also break the chain.
Failure Risk: If Malphite engages while Irelia is still stacking her passive on minions, she misses the optimal burst window. Timing is strict here.
Recovery: If the enemy survives the burst, Malphite’s ground slam slows attack speed, helping Irelia win the extended auto-attack trade.
4. Karma (Moderate Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Speed and shielding. Mantra-E gives Irelia the burst of movement speed needed to close gaps without using Q charges, plus a massive shield to survive the initial focus fire.
Best Scenario: Irelia looks for a flank. Karma shields her, triggering the speed boost. Irelia engages with E into Q, using the extra speed to dodge key skillshots. Karma then tethers the target with W to root them in place for Irelia’s finisher.
Enemy Answer: Anti-shield items like Serpent's Fang reduce the effectiveness of the engage. Long-range poke can force Karma to use Mantra defensively rather than offensively.
Failure Risk: Karma is squishy. If Irelia dives too deep, Karma cannot follow to maintain the tether or shield, leaving Irelia isolated.
Recovery: Karma’s Q slow provides disengage. If Irelia retreats, Karma can slow the chasing enemies, allowing Irelia to Q to safety.
5. Lillia (Situational Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Sleep setup and burn. Lillia’s ult puts enemies to sleep, setting up Irelia’s E and R perfectly. The burn damage softens targets so Irelia can secure resets faster.
Best Scenario: Lillia lands her E (slow) or R on the enemy team. Irelia waits for the sleep to pop, then lands a guaranteed E stun and R. The enemies wake up slowed and marked, making them easy prey for Q resets.
Enemy Answer: Tanks can body-block Lillia’s sleep. If the enemy has a Mikael's Blessing or similar cleanse support, they can wake the carry before Irelia lands her combo.
Failure Risk: Lillia is fragile and needs to stack speed. If she gets caught out before the fight, the synergy falls apart completely.
Recovery: Lillia’s high speed allows her to kite enemies chasing Irelia. She can peel for a retreating Irelia by dropping her Q perimeter.
