Targets Rakan Punishes

Rakan thrives against immobile backlines that cluster together. In Mayhem, where engage range is extended and cooldowns are short, he forces squishy champions to respect his threat range or die. He specifically exploits champions that lack instant disengage tools or rely on stationary positioning to output damage.

  • Jinx: Jinx has no dash to escape Grand Entrance. When she ramps up her attack speed, she often stands still to auto-attack, making her an easy target for Rakan's knock-up. If Rakan hits a Quickness augment or lands his W on her while she is minigun mode, she cannot reposition before the follow-up damage arrives. She must burn Summoner spells early or get zoned off the wave entirely.
  • Kog'Maw: Kog'Maw relies on extended trades to melt tanks, but Rakan refuses to give him that time. A W engage interrupts his rhythm and forces him to either flash or die before his passive triggers. Even if Kog'Maw gets a kill with his passive explosion, Rakan usually survives with his E hop back to an ally. The engage window is short, and Kog'Maw cannot create enough distance alone.
  • Varus: Varus wants to poke and fish for Q snipes, but Rakan's mobility lets him sidestep the arrow and close the gap instantly. If Varus commits to a charged Q, he slows himself, which is a death sentence against a Rakan looking for an engage angle. Rakan can also use his R to speed through Varus's ultimate, ignoring the slow if he times his activation right, and lock him down before the corruption spreads.
  • Veigar: Veigar's cage is terrifying for most melee champions, but Rakan can engage from outside the perimeter with W. If Veigar throws the cage on himself, Rakan can simply wait it out and re-engage, or use his ultimate to rush through the edge before the stun applies. Veigar's burst is high, but his health pool is fragile. One clean knock-up usually results in a kill before he can press Zhonya's.
  • Ashe: Ashe's perma-slow is annoying, but it does not stop a Rakan with Quickness or his ultimate active. She lacks a hard dash to create space once he closes the distance. If she burns her R to point-blank stun him, she wastes her best defensive tool. Rakan punishes her reliance on kiting by engaging over her slow field and forcing her to fight in melee range where she loses.

Threats That Punish Rakan

Rakan's biggest weakness is crowd control that interrupts his engage or traps him after he commits. He is a hit-and-run engager, not a tank. If he gets locked down mid-W or caught without his E reset, he evaporates. Mayhem's reduced cooldowns mean CC chains are more frequent, so Rakan must respect champions that can stop his momentum instantly.

  • Leona: Leona is a nightmare because she can match his engage and out-stat him in a brawl. If Rakan goes in, Leona simply presses R on his landing spot or uses Q to stun him out of his W animation. He cannot burst her down, and she forces him to stay in the fight longer than he wants. If Rakan gets caught by her E-Q combo without his E available, he has no way to escape.
  • Alistar: Alistar shuts down Rakan's entire game plan. Headbutt-Pulverize interrupts Grand Entrance mid-flight, turning an engage into a wasted cooldown. Even if Rakan lands his knock-up, Alistar's ultimate removes the follow-up damage threat, making the trade pointless. Alistar can also engage onto Rakan's backline faster than Rakan can peel, forcing him into a defensive role where he is less effective.
  • Janna: Janna's disengage counters Rakan's engage harder than almost any other support. Her ultimate instantly cancels his W and R progress, pushing him away and healing her team. Her tornado charges create zones Rakan cannot safely path through without risking a knock-up. If she plays reactively and holds her Q or R for his engage, Rakan becomes useless. He cannot force a fight through her layer of peel without dying.
  • Poppy: Poppy is the hard counter to all dash-based champions. Her W stops Rakan from using his E to escape after an engage, trapping him in the enemy backline. If Rakan tries to W in, Poppy can E him into a wall for a stun or just press R to kick him out of the fight entirely. Even a partial channel on her ultimate sends him back to his fountain, wasting his cooldowns and removing him from the skirmish.
  • Lulu: Lulu does not kill Rakan, but she neutralizes him. Polymorph stops his engage cold, and her ultimate knocks him up while healing her ally, ruining his burst window. Rakan relies on quick burst-and-exit patterns, and Lulu's kit is designed to extend fights and protect targets. If he engages on a Lulu-protected carry, he gets polymorphed, knocked up, and killed before he can E out.

Against the targets he punishes, Rakan should look for aggressive angles and force Summoner spells early. Against the threats that punish him, he must play for baits, wait for major cooldowns to burn, and engage only when the enemy's disengage tools are on cooldown. In Mayhem, the margin for error is thin. One interrupted W means death, but one clean engage onto a clumped immobile backline wins the fight instantly.
