Team Synergy

Rakan thrives in Mayhem because the mode's reduced cooldowns and increased healing turn his engage from a calculated risk into a constant threat. He does not function well as a solo engage tank; he needs partners who can instantly follow up his Grand Entrance or Rapid Slash. His ideal team provides hard crowd control to chain with his knock-ups and enough damage to delete targets during the brief windows he creates. He struggles most in poke compositions where he lacks a reliable way to close the gap without taking fatal damage before he reaches his target.

Core Synergy Needs

  • Hard Follow-Up Crowd Control: Teammates who can stun or knock up enemies after Rakan’s initial engagement, preventing them from flashing or dashing away.
  • Reliable Burst Damage: Partners who can capitalize on the split-second Rakan buys with his W, turning his engage into a kill rather than just a trade.
  • Disengage or Counter-Engage: Since Rakan often dives deep, he needs allies who can peel for him or reset the fight if his entrance fails.

Top Teammate Synergies

  1. Xayah (The Ideal Partner)

Synergy Mechanism: The passive connection allows Rakan to cast his W from an extended range, and her root sets up his knock-up perfectly. In Mayhem, the reduced cooldowns mean Rakan can engage, disengage to her, and re-engage almost immediately.

Combo: Xayah casts Featherstorm to become untargetable and lay feathers. Rakan uses the extended range on Grand Entrance to knock up enemies caught in the feather storm. Xayah recalls feathers to root, and Rakan follows with Quickness (R) to charm them back into the damage zone.

Best Scenario: Fighting in a narrow choke point where Xayah’s feathers cover the entire width. Rakan engages from a screen away, forcing the enemy to choose between dodging his knock-up or walking into her root.

Enemy Answer: Hard disengage tools like Gragas R or Janna R can separate the duo. Long-range poke champions like Ziggs or Xerath can force Xayah out of position before Rakan can leap to her.

Failure Risk: If Xayah dies first, Rakan loses his extended range safety net. He becomes a short-range melee engage tool that is much easier to kite.

Recovery: If Xayah falls, Rakan must play as a pure peeler for the remaining carries, using his W only to interrupt enemy divers rather than starting new fights.

  2. Yasuo (The Windwall Combo)

Synergy Mechanism: Rakan provides the airborne setup that Yasuo needs to cast Last Breath. This interaction is devastating in Mayhem because Rakan’s knock-up hits a large area, allowing Yasuo to ult multiple targets instantly.

Combo: Rakan activates Quickness (R) to speed up, then casts Grand Entrance (W) into the enemy team. As soon as enemies are knocked up, Yasuo follows with Last Breath. Rakan then uses Battle Dance (E) to shield Yasuo as he lands his auto-attacks.

Best Scenario: Enemy teams that rely on projectile block or heavy frontline. Yasuo’s windwall cuts off enemy support fire while Rakan and Yasuo dive the backline.

Enemy Answer: Point-and-click crowd control like Lissandra R or Malzahar R can stop Yasuo mid-air or hold him down after he lands. A well-timed knock-up on Rakan during his W wind-up cancels the engage entirely.

Failure Risk: If Yasuo gets burst down instantly after his ult, Rakan is left deep in enemy territory with no damage support. This often leads to a quick death for both.

Recovery: Rakan should save his E dash for an ally outside the fray if Yasuo gets collapsed on. He can use the dash to escape rather than shielding a doomed ally.

  3. Miss Fortune (The Bullet Lane)

Synergy Mechanism: Rakan’s crowd control holds enemies in place for the full duration of Bullet Time. The charm from his ultimate forces enemies to walk toward him, often keeping them inside the AOE circle.

Combo: Rakan engages with W to knock up the priority targets. Miss Fortune immediately channels her ultimate. Rakan activates R and runs through the knocked-up targets, charming them to ensure they cannot flash or dash out of the Bullet Time damage.

Best Scenario: Level 6 team fights where the enemy is grouped near their tower. The combination of AOE knock-up and AOE execute damage can wipe a full health team in seconds.

Enemy Answer: Any interrupt on Miss Fortune stops the damage. Champions like Soraka or Sona can silence her, or a tank like Malphite can knock her out of the channel. Enemies with instant dashes can escape the ult radius.

Failure Risk: If Rakan engages too early or too late, the enemies may recover from the knock-up before Bullet Time starts, allowing them to sidestep the damage.

Recovery: If the combo fails, Rakan must use his E to shield Miss Fortune and retreat. He should look for a secondary engage only if the enemy used their major cooldowns to escape.

  4. Ornn (The Chain CC Wall)

Synergy Mechanism: Ornn provides a massive AOE knock-up with his Call of the Forge God, which Rakan can easily chain. Rakan’s mobility helps him reach enemies knocked Airborne by Ornn, keeping them stunned for an absurd duration.

Combo: Ornn initiates with his R, slowing and knocking up the enemy team. Rakan follows the path of the ram with his own W, adding a second knock-up just as the first one ends. Rakan then ults to charm the falling enemies, preventing them from acting for nearly 3 seconds total.

Best Scenario: Poking wars where the enemy is trying to siege. Ornn can start the fight from a distance, and Rakan acts as the closer who confirms the engage.

Enemy Answer: Fast champions like Ezreal or Katarina can blink over Ornn’s ram entirely, negating the setup. Cleanse effects or QSS can break the charm, allowing enemies to flash away.

Failure Risk: The team lacks damage if the follow-up carries are dead or out of range. Ornn and Rakan together provide massive utility but low kill pressure without a damage dealer.

Recovery: Rakan should use his E to dash to Ornn, using Ornn’s brittle shield to survive the counter-attack while waiting for cooldowns.

  5. Neeko (The Deceptive Engage)

Synergy Mechanism: Neeko can disguise herself as Rakan, confusing the enemy about who is engaging. When the real Rakan goes in, the enemy may waste cooldowns on the fake. Her ultimate roots and damages, stacking perfectly with his knock-up.

Combo: Neeko disguises as Rakan and walks forward. The enemy expects a W engage and holds their counter-abilities. The real Rakan flanks from the side with R active. Neeko drops her R as Rakan knocks them up, resulting in a massive AOE stun and charm layer.

Best Scenario: Bush camping or fog-of-war plays. The psychological pressure of not knowing which "Rakan" is real forces the enemy to play passively or make mistakes.

Enemy Answer: Red trinkets or pink wards reveal the real Neeko. Hard poke can force Neeko out of her disguise before the engage happens.

Failure Risk: If Neeko is caught out while setting up the disguise, Rakan is left without his primary burst partner. The deception element is lost, and the fight becomes a standard 4v5.

Recovery: Rakan must play defensively if Neeko dies. He should look to peel for the remaining damage dealers rather than forcing a bad engage.
