Team Synergy
Malphite in Mayhem ARAM operates as a nuclear initiator or a brick wall against heavy physical damage comps. He offers two distinct win conditions: locking down the entire enemy team for a follow-up wipe, or shutting down auto-attackers so completely that they become irrelevant. He does not offer sustained damage or poke, so his allies must cover those gaps. He needs partners who can capitalize on his Unstoppable charge or benefit from the attack speed slow he projects.
Core Synergy Needs
- Follow-up Crowd Control: Malphite’s ultimate puts enemies in the air. He needs allies who can chain stun, root, or knock them back up before they can flash or heal.
- Area-of-Effect Burst: Since Malphite clusters the enemy team, he synergizes best with mages or fighters who have large, delayed nukes that would otherwise miss mobile targets.
- Physical Damage Mitigation: If building Armor, Malphite creates a zone where ADCs deal reduced damage. He pairs well with other tanky front-liners to create an unkillable frontline.
Top Teammate Synergies
-
Yasuo (Windwall Follow-up)
Synergy Mechanism: This is the classic "Malphite sets, Yasuo spikes" combo. Malphite’s Unstoppable force guarantees he reaches the enemy backline, and his ultimate Airborne effect allows Yasuo to instantly cast Last Breath on multiple targets without needing to stack his own knock-up.
Best Scenario: Malphite lands a 3-to-5 man ultimate. Yasuo follows instantly with his own ultimate, keeping the enemy suspended. Yasuo then populates the area with steel tempest whirlwinds and auto-attacks while the enemy is disoriented.
Enemy Answer: The enemy team must hold their hard crowd control specifically for Yasuo. If they stun Yasuo the moment he lands, the combo falls apart. They may also build Quicksilver Sash or Zhonya’s Hourglass to break the chain.
Failure Risk: If Malphite engages too deep under an enemy turret, Yasuo has to choose between dying to tower shots or abandoning the fight. Also, if Malphite only hits a single tank, Yasuo wastes his ultimate on a low-value target.
Recovery: If Yasuo gets burst down, Malphite should disengage using Ground Slam and zone the enemy off Yasuo’s corpse. If Malphite misses, Yasuo must play passively and poke with Steel Tempest until ultimate cooldowns return.
-
Miss Fortune (Bullet Time Execution)
Synergy Mechanism: Malphite provides the setup for one of the highest damage area-of-effect combos in the game. Malphite’s ultimate clusters the enemy team in a tight circle, which is the perfect shape for Miss Fortune’s Bullet Time cone.
Best Scenario: Malphite engages on enemies who have used their dashes. As they land from the knock-up, Miss Fortune channels her ultimate directly over them. The enemies are forced to either stay in the damage zone or flash through it, often dying either way.
Enemy Answer: Smart enemies will save a dash or flash to escape the center of Malphite’s ultimate immediately. They may also interrupt Miss Fortune’s channel with a stray stun or silence.
Failure Risk: Miss Fortune is vulnerable while channeling. If the enemy team has a Nocturne or Pyke, they can ignore Malphite and kill Miss Fortune during her animation.
Recovery: If the combo is interrupted, Malphite should use Ground Slam to slow the enemy attack speed, reducing their damage output while Miss Fortune repositions. Malphite can peel for her using his standard attacks if divers get past him.
-
Orianna (Shockwave Layering)
Synergy Mechanism: This is a "ball delivery" synergy. Malphite acts as a mobile anchor for Orianna’s ball. She places the ball on him before he engages, and when he ults in, she triggers Command: Shockwave immediately, layering a second knock-up on top of his.
Best Scenario: Malphite charges into a grouped enemy team. Orianna’s Shockwave pulls enemies back into Malphite’s Ground Slam radius. This double displacement prevents enemies from escaping and sets up easy hits for the rest of the team.
Enemy Answer: Enemies with spell shields like Sivir or Morgana can block the Shockwave. Fast-reacting players with knock-back abilities like Alistar or Jayce can kick Malphite away before he reaches the prime center of the group.
Failure Risk: If Malphite engages too early before Orianna has her ball on him, she has to waste time moving the ball, missing the split-second window. If she misjudges the range, the Shockwave whiffs entirely.
Recovery: Orianna provides disengage with her ball speed and shield. If the engage fails, she can speed Malphite up to help him retreat or shield him to survive the counter-attack.
-
Leona (The Chain Stun Lock)
Synergy Mechanism: This pairing creates a "perma-CC" frontline that is miserable to play against. Malphite initiates, and Leona follows with her Zenith Blade and Solar Flare. The chain of knock-ups and stuns keeps priority targets locked down for extended durations.
Best Scenario: The enemy team has a single hyper-carry that needs to be deleted. Malphite ults the carry, Leona instantly stuns them, and the team focuses fire. Their combined tankiness also makes them nearly unkillable in short trades.
Enemy Answer: Cleanse and Quicksilver Sash become high-value items for the enemy. A support like Janna or Alistar can disengage the follow-up with their own knock-backs, saving their carry.
Failure Risk: Both champions lack damage. If the backline damage dealers are dead or behind, Malphite and Leona can stun a target for three seconds and still fail to kill them, resulting in a lost fight over time.
Recovery: Both champions have strong defensive cooldowns. If the pick fails, they simply walk out. Leona can use her ultimate to zone enemies off objectives while Malphite’s passive shield resets.
-
Lissandra (The Point-and-Click Delete)
Synergy Mechanism: Lissandra provides the reliability that Malphite sometimes lacks. If Malphite cannot reach the backline, Lissandra can use her claw to engage, and Malphite can follow with his ultimate. Alternatively, Malphite engages, and Lissandra uses her Frozen Tomb on the most dangerous enemy, rooting them in place for Malphite’s Ground Slam.
Best Scenario: The enemy team has a slippery assassin or mage like Zed or Ahri. Malphite forces them to use their escape, and Lissandra instantly ults them, shutting down their mobility completely.
Enemy Answer: Zhonya’s Hourglass negates Lissandra’s ultimate damage and stasis timing. Enemies may also spread out specifically to avoid Malphite layering his ultimate on top of Lissandra’s.
Failure Risk: Both champions have to go deep to be effective. If they dive in and the rest of the team does not follow, they get kited and killed with no escape route.
Recovery: Lissandra can self-cast ultimate to heal and stasis if she gets focused. Malphite can turn and peel for his backline with Ground Slam if the dive goes wrong, slowing the enemy attack speed to help his team retreat.
