Targets Renekton Punishes
Renekton thrives against champions who cannot handle his empowered burst windows or lack the tools to disengage from his slice-and-dice pressure. In Mayhem's accelerated pace, his ability to generate Fury and spam empowered abilities makes short-range squishies and immobile mages easy prey.
- Veigar – The cage keeps most melee champions out, but Renekton's E dash ignores the stun trigger if he slices through the edge rather than stopping inside it. Once Renekton closes the gap, Veigar has no escape tool. Empowered W shreds through Event Horizon's zone control attempt, and the stun duration gives Renekton time to land a full Q rotation before Veigar can react. The danger only exists if Renekton engages while low on Fury or gets caught by a well-placed cage center before dashing. Solution: save E for the cage edge, never walk in without a dash ready, and burst him down before he scales his AP stack passive.
- Katarina Her daggers require set-up time, and Renekton's empowered W interrupts her ultimate instantly. Katarina wants to shunpo onto a dagger and spin, but Renekton can E forward, auto-attack, and stun her mid-rotation before she gets damage off. Even if she tries to escape, the second E dash chases her down. The risk comes from her passive dagger resets if Renekton misses his W timing or engages into a pre-placed dagger trap. Solution: hold empowered W specifically for her ult channel, respect dagger placement on the ground, and force her to shunpo defensively instead of offensively.
- Katarina – Her entire pattern relies on standing still to channel damage. Empowered W breaks her ultimate immediately, and Renekton's double E makes it nearly impossible for her to kite or reset effectively. She becomes a free kill if she commits to a fight without her team peeling. The only threat is if Renekton dives too deep under tower chasing a reset chain. Solution: save W for her ult, dash through her daggers to deny her reset angles, and burst her before she gets a second shunpo.
- Miss Fortune – Her ultimate channels in place, and Renekton's E into empowered W interrupts the entire ability. Without her ult, Miss Fortune offers little close-range threat. Renekton can slice through her frontline, stun her, and delete her before she repositions. The danger window opens if she lands a good Bullet Time before Renekton reaches her or if she stays behind multiple layers of peel. Solution: engage from angles that force her to cancel ult, use the first E to gap close, and save the second E to chase her flash.
- Yasuo – Windwall blocks Renekton's Q, but it does nothing against empowered W or his E dashes. Renekton wins the extended trade because his Fury sustain outlasts Yasuo's shield regeneration. If Yasuo tries to dash through minions to escape, Renekton's double E matches his mobility. The risk is Yasuo's tornado knockup into his own ult, which can turn a fight if Renekton overcommits without his own ult available. Solution: bait Windwall with a non-empowered Q, then engage with E and empowered W while his wall is down, and save ult for Yasuo's all-in attempt.
- Twisted Fate – His gold card stun is single-target and offers no escape after the initial peel. Renekton's E lets him dash through the gold card's travel time or eat the stun and still close the gap with the second dash. Once in melee range, Twisted Fate has no secondary defensive tool. The only threat is if Twisted Fate's team collapses during the stun duration or if he uses his ult to reposition before Renekton commits. Solution: engage when his gold card is on cooldown, ignore the stun with high health, and burst him before he can teleport away.
Threats That Punish Renekton
Renekton struggles against champions who can kite him indefinitely, lock him down during his engage, or punish his all-in with strong disengage. In Mayhem, where cooldowns are short, these counters become even more oppressive because they can repeatedly shut down his engage attempts.
- Janna – Her monsoon ultimate completely nullifies Renekton's engage by pushing him back and healing her team. Even if Renekton lands a perfect E-W combo, Janna's disengage resets the fight instantly. Her tornado also interrupts his E mid-dash, leaving him stranded without a second dash. The danger window is any engage where Janna has ult available. Solution: wait for her to burn monsoon on a teammate, look for flanks that bypass her line of sight, or focus her first if she overextends for poke.
- Anivia – The combination of her wall and perma-slow from her ultimate makes approaching her a nightmare. Renekton's E can dash over the wall, but Anivia can place her R directly on top of herself, slowing Renekton enough to kite backward. If he gets caught in her Q stun, she bursts him down before he can react. The risk boundary is any engage where Anivia has both wall and ult ready. Solution: engage from angles where her wall blocks fewer escape paths, rush magic resistance early, and force her to burn wall before committing with both E charges.
- Jinx – Her traps and passive speed reset make her nearly impossible to pin down. If Renekton dashes in, she places chompers directly under herself, and the root duration gives her time to reposition and reset her passive. Her range advantage in Mayhem means she can chip Renekton down before he ever reaches her. The danger is chasing her after a reset, where she kites backward while her team focuses him. Solution: engage only when her chompers are on cooldown, avoid overcommitting the second E if she has flash or passive speed ready, and target her supports first to deny her reset chains.
- Zilean – His double bomb stun interrupts Renekton's engage, and his ultimate revive completely negates Renekton's burst window. Even if Renekton kills a target, Zilean's ult brings them back with full health. The speed boost from his E also lets his entire team kite Renekton indefinitely. The risk is wasting all cooldowns on a revived target or getting stunned mid-dash. Solution: focus Zilean first to force his ult on himself, then re-engage after the revive expires, or wait for him to burn his double bomb stun on a teammate before diving.
- Azir – His ultimate creates an impassable wall that Renekton cannot dash through, completely blocking his engage. Azir's soldiers also zone Renekton from approaching, and his shuffle can knock Renekton into his own team for a counter-engage. The danger window is any engage where Azir has ult and soldiers positioned. Solution: flank from angles where his ult cannot block the entire path, wait for him to shuffle a teammate before committing, or force him to use ult defensively by threatening his backline.
- Vayne – Her condemn knocks Renekton back and can stun him against walls, turning his engage into a death sentence. Her tumble and invisibility during ult make her impossible to lock down with empowered W. In Mayhem's tight ARAM lane, walls are everywhere, giving her constant condemn opportunities. The risk is diving her near terrain where she can easily land a wall stun. Solution: engage in open areas away from walls, save empowered W for after her tumble to predict her reposition, and bring teammates who can provide vision during her invisibility.
Renekton's success in Mayhem depends on recognizing which targets he can burst down before they react and avoiding engages into disengage-heavy compositions. Pick your moments, respect the champions who can reset your engage, and always have an exit plan if the second E cannot secure the kill.
