Team Synergy
Jarvan IV functions as a force multiplier in Mayhem. He does not need to carry the damage charts himself; he creates the geometry that lets his allies hit everything. His main job is to lock down high-value targets inside his Cataclysm or to peel divers off his backline with Dragon Strike knockups. Because Mayhem reduces cooldowns and increases damage, his ultimate creates a kill zone that is much harder to escape than in standard ARAM. He needs teammates who can capitalize on a clustered enemy team instantly.
Core Teammate Needs
- Reliable AoE Follow-Up: Jarvan traps enemies, but he needs partners who can fill that circle with damage before enemies Flash or dash out.
- Single-Target Focus: He excels at isolating one target. He needs allies who can burst that isolated target down immediately.
- Disengage Support: If Jarvan dives deep and misses his combo, he is vulnerable. He benefits from allies who can stun pursuers or shield him during his escape.
Top Synergy Pairings
-
Miss Fortune (Extreme Value)
Synergy Mechanism: This is the classic "Bullet Rain" combo. Jarvan’s Cataclysm creates a perfect terrain cage that groups enemies tightly. Miss Fortune channels her ultimate directly into the trapped cluster, guaranteeing maximum tick damage on multiple targets.
Best Scenario: Jarvan lands a three-to-five man Cataclysm near a wall. He immediately pings or voice-chats the engage. Miss Fortune starts her channel the moment the ring appears, covering the entire diameter of the ultimate.
Enemy Answer: The enemy must save hard crowd control specifically for Miss Fortune. They may also build Edge of Night or buy Quicksilver to cleanse the terrain trap early. Supports like Morgana or Black Shield users can negate the lockdown.
Failure Risk: If Jarvan drops the ring too early or whiffs the knockup, enemies simply walk out of the "Make it Rain" cone. Miss Fortune becomes a sitting duck while channeling if the enemy has a point-and-click stun ready.
Recovery: If the combo fails, Jarvan should use his remaining Dragon Strike to create distance for Miss Fortune, body-blocking skillshots while she repositions.
-
Orianna (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: The Ball delivery system. Jarvan engages with his standard combo, bringing the Ball with him into the enemy backline. Orianna then activates Shockwave, pulling enemies back into Jarvan’s attack range or stacking the knockup on top of his terrain.
Best Scenario: Orianna places the Ball on Jarvan before he engages. Jarvan uses Dragon Strike to gap-close and ults the priority target. Orianna ults the moment Jarvan lands, catching enemies who try to flash out of the Cataclysm.
Enemy Answer: Mobile assassins like Zed or Fizz can dodge the Shockwave timing. Cleanse effects allow enemies to escape the Cataclysm before the Shockwave lands.
Failure Risk: Jarvan can dive out of Orianna’s ball leash range if he goes too deep too fast. This leaves him without the shield and speed burst, and Orianna without a delivery method for her ultimate.
Recovery: Orianna should use her Dissonance (W) to speed Jarvan up if he is retreating. Jarvan saves his Demacian Standard to provide an armor aura for Orianna if she gets dived.
-
Yasuo (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Airborne interaction. Jarvan’s Dragon Strike knockup and his Cataclysm terrain interaction set up Yasuo’s Last Breath perfectly. In Mayhem, where Yasuo generates windwalls and dashes frequently, a guaranteed knockup is a massive spike.
Best Scenario: Jarvan hits a multi-man Dragon Strike. Yasuo instantly ults. Jarvan then follows up with Cataclysm to keep them contained after Yasuo’s ultimate stun ends.
Enemy Answer: Enemies can buy Tenacity to reduce the knockup duration, making the window for Yasuo’s ultimate very short. A well-timed Flash can break the chain.
Failure Risk: Yasuo might ult too late and miss the airborne window. Alternatively, Jarvan might trap Yasuo inside the Cataclysm with a fed enemy duelist who can kill Yasuo in a 1v1 cage match.
Recovery: Yasuo uses his Steel Tempest whirlwind to peel for Jarvan if the engage goes wrong. Jarvan can manually cancel his ultimate early to allow Yasuo to dash out through enemy minions.
-
Swain (Strong Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Zone control stacking. Swain’s ultimate requires him to be in the center of the fight to drain and explode. Jarvan’s Cataclysm forces enemies to stay exactly where Swain wants them—next to him.
Best Scenario: Jarvan engages and traps the enemy frontline. Swain activates his ultimate and walks into the cage. The enemies have no room to dodge Swain’s pull or the explosion.
Enemy Answer: Anti-heal items like Morellonomicon or Bramble Vest cut Swain’s sustain significantly. Knockbacks like Poppy’s Steadfast Presence or Vayne’s Condemn can push Swain out of his own drain range.
Failure Risk: If Jarvan traps Swain outside the circle, Swain has to burn Flash to get in, or he wastes his ultimate. Jarvan also risks dying instantly if he dives into five people without Swain’s demon form active yet.
Recovery: Swain uses his pull (E) to drag enemies back into Jarvan’s range. Jarvan uses his passive armor buff from the flag to tank tower shots or aggro while Swain heals up.
-
Brand (Strong Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Bounce efficiency. Brand’s ultimate bounces between nearby enemies. Jarvan’s ultimate forces clumping, which maximizes the damage output of Pyroclasm instantly.
Best Scenario: The enemy team groups up to siege. Jarvan lands a four-man Cataclysm. Brand fires his ultimate into the center, resulting in a near-instant team wipe due to the rapid bounces and passive detonation.
Enemy Answer: Spreading out before Jarvan engages prevents the bounce chain. Spell shields can block the initial Pyroclasm impact.
Failure Risk: Brand has no mobility. If Jarvan engages and Brand is too far back to cast in time, Jarvan dies for nothing. If Brand is too close, he gets burst down before he can unload his combo.
Recovery: Brand uses his stun (Q) on a burning target to peel for Jarvan. Jarvan should prioritize peeling for Brand in the late game rather than diving, as Brand’s damage output is higher.
