Team Synergy
Udyr in Mayhem operates as a stat-checking brawler who wants to rush down targets and cycle stances faster than opponents can deal with. He lacks hard engage outside of a point-blank stun, so he relies heavily on teammates to set up his approach or keep him alive through the initial burst. He functions best as a follow-up engager or a chaotic frontline who disrupts enemy positioning while dishing out consistent damage.
Core Team Needs
- Hard Engage or Set-up: Udyr struggles to close gaps against competent kiting teams. He needs allies with reliable knock-ups, snares, or long-range engages to force enemies to burn cooldowns, allowing him to walk in and take over.
- Peel and Protection: While Udyr is tanky, he can be focused down quickly if he overcommits. Supports with shields, disengage, or healing allow him to play more aggressively and survive the burst window.
- Poke or Zone Control: If Udyr cannot reach the enemy, he needs teammates who can force them out of position or chunk them low enough that his cleanup becomes inevitable.
Top Synergy Pairings
1. Orianna
Synergy Mechanism: Ball delivery and zone control. Orianna provides the perfect setup for Udyr’s lack of gap-close. She can place the ball on him, allowing him to use his movement speed to position for a Shockwave, or use her shield to boost his durability during the approach.
Combo: Orianna puts the ball on Udyr. Udyr activates his movement stance and runs at a priority target. As enemies clump to kite him, Orianna casts Shockwave. Udyr follows with an empowered stun and spreads damage in the confusion.
Best Scenario: The enemy team is grouped tightly near a tower or choke point. Udyr forces a panic retreat, and Orianna catches the cluster with a decisive ultimate.
Enemy Answer: Hard disengage supports like Janna or Gragas can knock Udyr away before he reaches the center, wasting the setup. Long-range poke can force Orianna to play back before the combo starts.
Failure Risk: If Udyr gets peeled instantly, the ball falls behind, and Orianna has no delivery system. The team loses both engage and damage.
Recovery: Orianna uses Command: Dissonance to slow the chase, while Udyr switches to defensive stances and retreats to reset.
2. Yasuo
Synergy Mechanism: Airborne interaction and windwall coverage. Yasuo benefits from any knock-up, and while Udyr does not provide one, Yasuo’s windwall blocks the projectile burst that stops Udyr in his tracks. Together they form a dive core that overwhelms backlines.
Combo: A third teammate provides the knock-up, or Yasuo lands a whirlwind. Yasuo ults, suspending targets. Udyr walks onto the suspended enemies and chains his stun immediately as they land, locking them down for a second round of damage.
Best Scenario: A chaotic teamfight where enemies are forced to dodge multiple threats. Yasuo windwalls the initial burst, and Udyr runs through the gap to stun the enemy carry.
Enemy Answer: Point-and-click crowd control like Lissandra or Ryze ultimate stops Yasuo’s dash flow and Udyr’s approach instantly. Heavy magic damage bypasses the windwall.
Failure Risk: Yasuo dives too deep without backup and dies. Udyr arrives too late to save him, leaving the team without a damage dealer.
Recovery: Udyr peels for the remaining backline, using his stun to protect the other carries while Yasuo’s death timer resets.
3. Leona
Synergy Mechanism: Chain crowd control and target locking. Leona offers the reliable engage Udyr lacks. Her ability to lock down a target for several seconds allows Udyr to close the distance and apply his own stun, creating a near-permanent disable window.
Combo: Leona lands Zenith Blade onto a squishy target. She chains Shield of Daybreak and Solar Flare. Udyr runs in during the lockdown and adds his empowered stun the moment Leona’s effects end. The target has no window to flash or dash away.
Best Scenario: Picking off an out-of-position enemy at the start of a fight, creating a 5v4 advantage before the main engagement begins.
Enemy Answer: Cleanse, QSS, or Mikael’s Crucible can break the chain. A dedicated peeler like Braum or Taric can block Udyr’s follow-up damage with shields and invulnerability.
Failure Risk: Leona engages onto a tank with heavy follow-up damage. Udyr commits to the call and gets kited by the enemy backline while the tank survives.
Recovery: Udyr disengages immediately, body-blocking skillshots for Leona as she attempts to retreat with her Eclipse armor.
4. Brand
Synergy Mechanism: Damage layering and zone denial. Udyr forces enemies to spread out or focus him. Brand wants enemies grouped for his passive explosions. Udyr’s presence creates a lose-lose scenario: enemies clump to kill him and eat Brand damage, or they spread and get run down by Udyr one by one.
Combo: Udyr rushes the enemy backline. The enemy team collapses to peel him. Brand casts his ultimate and Pillar of Flame on the clump. Udyr continues to disrupt while Brand’s passive burns the entire group.
Best Scenario: Enemy team lacks hard engage and is forced to play reactively. Udyr acts as the bait while Brand deals the real damage.
Enemy Answer: High burst assassins like Zed or Kha’Zix can ignore Udyr and delete Brand before the damage stacks. Long-range poke forces Brand to play from a distance where he cannot capitalize on Udyr’s disruption.
Failure Risk: Udyr dies instantly without drawing cooldowns. Brand gets dove immediately after and has no frontline to protect him.
Recovery: Brand uses his stun to create distance. Udyr, if alive, switches to full defense to buy time for the next wave.
5. Lulu
Synergy Mechanism: Speed boost, polymorph safety, and ultimate rescue. Lulu is the ultimate enabler for a melee brawler. Whimsy gives Udyr the movement speed he desperately needs, while Wild Growth gives him a second health bar and a knock-up to disrupt enemies.
Combo: Udyr activates his movement stance. Lulu casts Whimsy on him for the speed boost. As Udyr reaches the enemy team and starts taking focus fire, Lulu ults him, knocking up nearby enemies and healing him. Udyr cycles stances to sustain through the fight.
Best Scenario: Against a team with heavy burst but low sustained damage. Lulu’s ult neutralizes their engage, and Udyr outlasts them in the extended fight.
Enemy Answer: Anti-heal reduces Udyr’s sustain. Hard engage that bypasses Lulu’s polymorph, such as Malphite or Hecarim ultimate, can knock Lulu out of the fight before she can cast her tools.
Failure Risk: Lulu wastes her cooldowns on the wrong target. Udyr dives expecting the speed boost or ult and gets nothing, leading to an easy kill for the enemy.
Recovery: Lulu saves her polymorph for the biggest threat. Udyr plays more passively, peeling for Lulu until his cooldowns reset.
