Targets Akali Punishes

Akali thrives against backlines that cannot burst her down during her extended all-ins. In Mayhem, where ability haste and sustain augments are abundant, she can cycle her Shroud multiple times in a single fight, making immobile squishies effectively helpless once she closes the gap.

  • Kog'Maw: He has no dash to escape her Mark execution or her E1 follow-up. Even if he lands his slow, Akali can drop Shroud immediately to break his line of sight while continuing her combo. His passive explosion is the only real threat, so save a dash or Flash to reposition after he dies. Engage when his Void Ooze is on cooldown, as that is his only disengage tool.
  • Jinx: Jinx relies on kiting with her minigun stacks, but Akali’s R1 and E1 bypass her front line instantly. Once Akali is on top of her, Jinx has no dash to create space. Akali can sit in Shroud while waiting for R2 cooldown or energy regeneration, forcing Jinx to guess where to fire her rockets. Punish her when she uses Zap! to clear waves, as the channeling time leaves her exposed to a free engage.
  • Veigar: The cage is annoying, but Akali can often R1 over the walls or dash out with E1 before the stun lands. If she baits the cage out, Veigar becomes a sitting duck. His burst is high, but in Mayhem, Akali often builds enough Omnivamp or shielding augments to survive the initial rotation and run him down. Do not dive him if he has his Event Horizon ready; wait for him to waste it on wave clear.
  • Varus: Varus lacks the mobility to escape Akali’s stickiness. His only safety is his R, which is a telegraphed skillshot. If Akali dodges it or uses Shroud to drop aggro during the wind-up, Varus has no backup plan. He is particularly vulnerable when he charges his Q, as he slows himself, giving Akali a free window to engage.
  • Brand: Brand wants to stand still and layer his passive explosions. Akali can break his combo with Shroud, preventing him from landing the stun or spreading the blaze. Since Brand is extremely squishy, a full Akali combo usually deletes him before he can get a second spell rotation off. Engage from the side to avoid his pillar range, and do not chase him into chokepoints where his ultimate can bounce freely.

Threats That Punish Akali

Akali’s weakness in Mayhem is crowd control that reveals her or persists through her Shroud, as well as champions who can match her burst or out-sustain her in extended trades. She relies on resetting her aggro; if she cannot hide, she melts.

  • Lee Sin: This is a nightmare matchup. Lee Sin’s E reveals stealth units, completely nullifying Akali’s Shroud. He can also kick her out of her own engage, peeling her off his backline instantly. In Mayhem, his cooldowns are short enough that he can safeguard allies and reveal her multiple times per fight. Play respectfully when his E is available, and look for flanks rather than frontal dives.
  • Lillia: Her passive burns through Akali’s health even if Akali is hidden in Shroud. Lillia’s high movement speed makes her incredibly difficult for Akali to pin down with R2 or E2. Worse, Lillia’s ultimate puts Akali to sleep, popping her out of stealth and setting her up for a kill. Avoid clumping near allies when Lillia has her R, and try to force her to burn her speed boost before committing to a dive.
  • Leona: Leona’s lockdown is point-and-click and relentless. Her Q stun and R root do not care about Shroud. If Akali dives in, Leona can simply chain-CC her while the enemy team collapses. In Mayhem, Leona’s cooldowns are low enough that Akali rarely gets a window to breathe. Only engage when Leona has blown her R on someone else, or look to poke her down before she can engage.
  • Twisted Fate: The Gold Card is a hard counter to Akali’s rhythm. TF can lock her down the moment she dives, and his R reveals her position even if she tries to reset with Shroud. In Mayhem, TF often builds ability haste, meaning he always has a Gold Card ready. Akali must respect his pick potential and wait for him to use his stun on a frontline ally before going in.
  • Amumu: His R is a massive area-of-effect root that ignores Shroud. If Akali tries to dive the backline, Amumu can simply press R, trapping her in a bad position. His Q also provides reliable engage and disruption. Akali cannot fight inside his ultimate, so she must wait for him to burn it or engage from an angle where his R cannot cover the entire backline.
