Team Synergy
Lucian in Mayhem operates as a relentless burst-poke marksman. He fires constantly, dashes often, and wants to stack damage multipliers on top of his passive shots. He does not function well as the sole physical damage threat, nor does he survive well without a frontline creating space. He needs partners who can lock targets down for his full combo or enable him to kite when divers inevitably crash the backline.
Core Synergy Needs
- Hard Crowd Control: Lucian’s damage is high but requires him to stand his ground and fire his passive double-shots. He needs teammates who can root, stun, or knock up enemies so he can unload his full kit without getting popped instantly.
- Engage and Disengage: Because Mayhem amplifies damage, Lucian dies the moment he gets caught by a hard engage. He relies on allies to start fights he can follow or peel threats off him so he can reposition with his E.
- Damage Synergy: He thrives with allies who provide attack speed buffs, movement speed, or damage amplification (vulnerability debuffs) to maximize his short-range burst windows.
Top Teammate Synergies
-
Nami (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Nami’s E (Tidecaller's Blessing) applies an on-hit effect and attack speed buff. In Mayhem, where Lucian’s ability haste is high, he procs the bonus damage constantly. Her Q (Aqua Prison) sets up his Q-Passive-E-Passive burst combo.
Best Scenario: Nami lands a bubble on a key target. Lucian dashes in with E, procs the Nami E slow and damage, and melts the target before the stun ends. Her ultimate creates a massive engage or disengage zone, letting Lucian safely channel his own ultimate or reposition.
Enemy Answer: Enemies will try to dodge the bubble and flash onto Nami or Lucian with point-and-click CC. Assassins like Zed or Talon ignore the bubble and go straight for the kill.
Failure Risk: If Nami misses her bubble, Lucian has no setup. He might dash in aggressively and get collapsed on because he lacks the safety of a stun. Nami is also very squishy; if she dies first, Lucian loses his speed buff and peel.
Recovery: Lucian should save his E for repositioning if Nami misses. He plays the poke game with Q until she is off cooldown or safe. -
Thresh (High Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Thresh provides a hook (Q) and a lantern (W) for safety. The Hook pulls enemies into Lucian’s effective range. The Flay (E) interrupts dashes, protecting Lucian from melee threats.
Best Scenario: Thresh lands a Hook on a squishy target. He pulls them close, Flays them back. Lucian unloads a full rotation into the trapped enemy. If Lucian gets low, he clicks the Lantern to escape a bad dive.
Enemy Answer: Tanks like Leona or Alistar can engage onto Thresh or Lucian without caring about the Hook. If the enemy has heavy AoE, they may zone Thresh off the fight, preventing him from peeling effectively.
Failure Risk: Thresh misses the Hook. He becomes a walking melee creep for several seconds. Lucian then has no pick potential and must play passively. If Thresh uses Flay incorrectly (pushing the enemy away instead of peeling), he might save the enemy.
Recovery: Lucian shifts to kiting. He uses his long-range Q to poke and waits for Thresh’s cooldowns. The Lantern remains a vital escape tool even if the Hook is down. -
Braum (Strong Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Braum’s Passive (Concussive Blows) triggers on Lucian’s rapid attacks. Lucian applies stacks instantly with his passive double-shots. Braum’s E (Unbreakable) blocks projectiles, shielding Lucian from enemy poke and ultimates.
Best Scenario: Braum jumps to Lucian with W, raises his shield to block a major enemy ultimate (like Ezreal or Lux R), and then tags an enemy with Q. Lucian follows up with two auto-attacks, stunning the target immediately.
Enemy Answer: Enemies flank from the side. Braum’s shield only blocks one direction. If they bypass the shield with CC or ground-targeted spells, Lucian gets stunned and killed.
Failure Risk: Braum gets poked down before he can engage. If he dies, Lucian loses his shield and the stun setup. Lucian then has to dodge everything manually, which is difficult in Mayhem’s chaotic damage environment.
Recovery: Lucian plays further back. He stops looking for aggressive E dashes and focuses on peeling for himself until Braum respawns or repositions. -
Leona (Strong Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Leona offers point-and-click lockdown with her Q and a long-range engage with her R (Solar Flare). She acts as a massive distraction, drawing enemy cooldowns while Lucian fires freely.
Best Scenario: Leona lands her R on multiple enemies. She follows with Q on the primary target. Lucian channels his ultimate (The Culling) down the line of stunned enemies, wiping or severely damaging the entire team.
Enemy Answer: The enemy team focuses Leona instantly. In Mayhem, tanks can melt fast. If Leona dies before Lucian can follow up, Lucian is left exposed to the enemy backline with no frontline buffer.
Failure Risk: Leona engages too deep. Lucian cannot follow without overextending and dying. This strands Leona and leaves Lucian alone on the bridge.
Recovery: Lucian must recognize a bad engage. He does not follow. He pokes from max range and uses his E to dodge any threats that turn on him after Leona falls. -
Milio (Moderate Value)
Synergy Mechanism: Milio provides range extension (W) and a cleanse/heal (R). The extra range allows Lucian to poke and trade more safely. The cleanse removes CC that would otherwise kill him.
Best Scenario: Lucian gets caught by a Morgana Q or similar snare. Milio instantly ults to cleanse it. Lucian uses his E to dash away and continues fighting with the bonus range from Milio’s W.
Enemy Answer: Heavy burst damage. If the enemy one-shots Lucian before Milio’s heal registers, the cleanse is irrelevant. Milio also lacks hard CC to set up kills for Lucian.
Failure Risk: Milio’s range extension puts Lucian in a false sense of security. Lucian might overextend for a poke, get flanked, and die before Milio can react.
Recovery: Lucian respects the enemy flankers. He uses the extra range strictly for poke, not for extended trades, and saves his E for the moment the enemy dives.
